A Hairy Situation..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

So, I start college in a few weeks and my hair is definitely in a style rut.. I'm definitely ready for a change. As much as I'd like to pretend that I'll be a good girl and straighten it all the time I know it won't end up happening. So i'm looking for a low maintenance style that works with my hair texture (wavy & thick!). I'm willing to take off some inches and maybe even go a bit darker (like Sophia Bush's color).

I would really love everyone's opinion on their favorite hairstyle for me, or even suggest other styles! What do you think about going darker?

This will be my last post for about a week.. I'll be taking a family vacation and be back the 31st! Hopefully by the time i get back I'll have had some help deciding on my new look!

Nude Heels are my new best friend!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Okay, so I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I was blessed with a height of a mere 5'0 [hence the blog name La Petite Fashionista]. Recently I stumbled upon a fellow fashion bloggers post about nude heels and their magical leg lengthening qualities (wow, i've been reading wayyy too much Harry Potter!). So, I hunted down a pair for myself at Charlotte Russe.. true they were super inexpensive, but I'm taking the trend for a test drive before I try out those dolce vita mary jane's i'm now lusting over. My nude heels have become my new best friend and I love how their neutral color gives me that boost of height that i'm looking for.

Pajama Party!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Okay, so let me make a teeny confession.. Although my love of fashion transcends into almost every aspect of my life (& wardrobe!) the one area which I'm lacking style is my pajamas and loungewear. As I'm going off to college in about a month (and living in a dorm so I can't just wear an oversized shirt to bed) I've had to stock up on some comfy and stylish pajamas. Now my pjs can reflect my fashion sense as well! Sweet Dreams!

p.s. I just got my Harry Potter book last night at midnight so I don't think i'll be doing too much sleeping! Yes.. nerdy i know.

Shwwwingg baby swing!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I don't care what the naysayers say, I will never tire of the sixties socialite look. I think the look isn't dead yet, just evolving a bit. The black & white mod look that was so popular last season is being replaced by colorful swirly pucci-esque prints. I watched Factory Girl on the airplane home from London. Edie's fashion sense was all her own and she was pretty much the muse for an entire trend although her story is quite tragic. I'm all about the minidresses and cocktail rings for summer paired with some expertly (or not so expertly in my case..) lined eyes.

Prep School

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Everyone better stock up on the three t's for this fall: tartan, tweeds, and totes! The prepster collegiate look is back and looking better than ever. Magazines report new spins on classic favorites, like pairing crested blazers with skinny jeans or an argyle sweater with a shrunken blazer. The trick to looking nerdy chic instead of like youre stuck in the fifties is by not overdoing the preppiness. I'm getting so excited for fall fashion and it's only july, this is truly quite depressing. This post was inspired by a similar looking pair of navy cordoroy pants i bought yesterday; the perfect start to my fall wardrobe.

P.S. I think i might try to DIY that Luella Geek Bag, a tip from Modern Marie!

Seeing Red

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
So, I apologize for the lack of blog posts! My past few days have been spent lying on the couch watching reruns of the the hills, sex and the city, and audrey hepburn movies due to my recent wisdom teeth removal. As much as I love ice cream, i would be perfectly happy if i never had to eat it again.. okay that's definitely an exaggeration, I just am craving whole food! Anywho, this blog post was inspired by a recent experiment with red lipstick.. it's usually a territory i never venture into but it ended up looking sort of forties glamour.
Click on this handy little chart to find your perfect shade of red (unless your eyesight is just that good!)

I'd also like to give a special thanks to College Fashion for giving me my first blogging award, I love your blog & you made my day!

She's Nasty!

Sophia, of Nasty Gal Vintage ( gave me a great interview about her store and views on fashion. check it out!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Q: How do you describe your personal style?
I would say that my personal style is a combination of 60s sex, 70s soul, and 80s street. Not too much, but just enough. Think of the word "mall" and then think of the opposite. That's me.
Q: What is your favorite fashion era?
I think my favorite era was the 70s, with all the high waists and disco/glam going on--especially the pants. Nearly all of my pants are from the 1970s and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love the bronze cheeks and pale lips too--reminds me so much of my biggest style inspiration--my mother.

Q: Where do you search for your amazing vintage finds for Nasty Gal Vintage?
I search high and low! And it gets pretty low, really. I've bought vintage from everywhere you'd think I may have bought it, and probably then some. I don't think I have access to anything special in terms of thrift stores (aside from being in California) but I give credit to my keen eye and serious, serious patience when shopping.

Q: Aren't you tempted to just keep everything for yourself??
No! Actually I rarely wear dresses (again, back to the pants thing) so the best stuff usually winds up in the store. Hopefully the "best" stuff only keeps getting better, too!

Q:What is your favorite item of clothing for sale at Nasty Gal Vintage right now?
Right now? currently I have some amazing things but next week I'll have a really cool pink striped sundress and some amazing pants. And a mindblowing Victor Costa dress!

Q: What is one classic item of clothing every girl should have in their wardrobe?
Every girl looks good in something different, but I think some good platforms are a must for pretty much anyone.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspriring fashionista's wanting to open their own boutique?
My advice would be to cultivate patience. Running your own business takes a lot of time and even more hard work...and also don't get too carried away. What you like may not be what everyone else likes, so you really have to take into account what people are into...

Thank you so much for that Sophia, and everyone make sure to check out the awesome vintage in her ebay store; Nasty Gal Vintage!

P.S. I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tommorow so if there is a lack of posts that would be why! Wish me Luck!

No Back Talk, Just Do It!

Everyone needs to go out and buy Back Talk, a teen novel by Alex Richards, a blogger friend and author! Read this excerpt from her site:

Goodbye small town hell . . . hello Big Apple!

Sixteen-year-old Gemma Winters couldn’t be more ecstatic—and terrified—about scoring a summer internship at one of the hippest daytime TV talk shows, Back Talk with Kate Morgan. To top it off, she’s staying in a palatial brownstone in Manhattan with celebutante Dana Cox (a virtual E! True Hollywood Story in the making) and world-weary millionheiress America Vanderbilt. Gemma’s corn-fed naiveté melts away as she gets a taste of designer clothes, underage clubbing . . . and a cute Jonathan Rhys Meyers look-a-like.

The glamour fades by nine a.m. when Gemma becomes slave labor for harried producers. Not even her borrowed Manolo Blahniks can shield her from an office romance turned ugly and backstabbing fellow interns. When someone is unfairly fired and a show is at risk, Gemma goes out of her way to prove this small-town girl is more than just a “photocopy bitch.”

Good luck with your book Alex!

if chanel's rocking the headscarf.. does that make it okay?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Okay so let me just admit to y'all now, my huge love for scarves, particularly headscarves. You know when yo take your silky scarves and wrap them around your head like you're a pirate slash biker chick. I've always admire nicole richie's ability to pull it off unlike any other person. I even tried wearing it poolside over spring break.. nonetheless i got a few weird looks ("why is she wearing her scarf like that?? does she think she's cool or something!")
When i saw all the models rocking head scarves in all their splendor at the Chanel resort show i questioned whether they have finally become accepted by fashion (and not just hipsters/nicole richie). What is your take on the headscarf? Cute or overkill?

What Once was Old.. Now is New!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

After seeing one of diana's posts on So FashON where she turned an old pair of leggings into a backless halter, i was inspired to revamp my closet and find some old pieces I could wear again in a new way! I came up with a baggy t-shirt as a mini-skort, leopard leggings as a fun halter, and a looong old black skirt as one of this summer's hottest buys.. the infamous maxi dress. That's what i love about fashion.. that it's always reinventing itself! I'd love to see some DIY closet revamping you all have done!
