Viva Brasil!

The other night I was at a club to watch my friend perform and they had a brazilian fashion show featuring bathing suits and dresses from brazilian designers. I spent like 15 minutes talking to thie jewelry maker who was selling some colorful, unique pieces. She sold earring sets with one long chandelier/teardrop earring and one crystal stud earring. She said that look is really popular with girls in Brazil.. I love it, very laidback, bohemian, and beachy. I also love all the bright, colorful prints used in Brazilian styles that they pair with a pair of bangles.. great summer inspiration!

To stylemob or not to stylemob.. that is the question?

Okay, so I saw an ad for stylemob via Punky's blog. So of course, i sign up because i'm pretty much into all things fashion and street style. I really do adore the concept (similar to stylediary).. post your outfits and have people rate them. But, honestly since joining, my self esteem has dropped quite dramatically. I know that sounds ridiculous, but yours would too after you recieve tons of "try again" votes from stylish strangers on your beloved outfits. The site brings up a very important internal question: Do I, or Should I really care what other people think about my outfits as long as I like what I'm wearing? It seems on the site people despise what your wearing unless its all thrifted and looks like something out of the cobrasnake. Call me sensitive but my feelings have actually been hurt by a dumb website.

So the question remains.. to stylemob or not to stylemob?

Trousers are no longer for middle-aged men!

One of the upcoming trends that I'm loving are wide legged trousers.. such a refreshing contrast to constricting skinny jeans! The only bad part is they're tricky to wear. That's why i've created this lovely guide to know how to rock the wide leg trousers. Since they're wide and somewhat masculine you should pair them with something tighter or more femine for balance. The metallic accessories liven up a solid colored shirt and can make your outfit a little flashier.

Summer Reading that Doesn't Suck!

I'm sure a lot of us have summer reading that we're supposed to be doing (I know I have a lovely book i'm responsible to finish by the time college starts). .. but books about fashion are just so much more fun. From the thought provoking (Fashion Babylon) to the picture books (Nylon Street Style), there is summer reading to fit everyone's style and preference! Does anyone else have any books they've been loving this summer?

7 Things to Know About Me

Game Rules: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to then report this on their own blog with their 7 things as well as these rules. Okay so here goes my 7 random facts (in no specific order!)

1. I'm addicted to Starbucks!

It started out as a place where my friends and I could just meet up and chat over coffee, but i've grown to love it and those uber hyphenated drinks (can we say nonfat-extra caramel drizzle-iced-caramel macchiatto?).

2. I'm fascinated by Andy Warhol

I've always loved his pop art but, on the flight home from London I watched Factory Girl (which was a tragic but great movie). Andy Warhol really intrigues me, he was an intersting character.

3. I'm never seen without my high heels on

I'm really short (about 5 ft), so I'm almost always wearing heels or wedges of every style, height, and color. They make you look instantly slimmer and more toned.

4. Eighties movies are my guilty pleasure!

I don't know what it is about 80s movies but they never fail to put me in a good mood! The plots are so light and comedic!

5. I'd love to get a tattoo but i'm way too scared!

I have the lowest pain tolerance ever, but on my 18th birthday I got a henna tattoo of chanel c's as my version of the rite of passage. I'd love to get a real one someday but i don't know how likely that is!

6. I won a fashion show from ElleGirl Magazine a couple years ago!

This is pretty much what made me decide to go for a career in fashion. It was amazing! I won an essay contest so the magazine shipped trunks of clothes, built a runway, and sent stylists and advertisements. All the money went to build a library for a school in Ethiopia.. I'll never forget it!

7. I want to open up my own boutique someday

This is ultimately what I would love to do with my life. After I get some experience in the industry look out for my La Petite Fashionista boutique!

Hang Loose!

Ever since I first tried surfing during a trip to Hawaii about 6 years ago I've loved it. Although I don't get to go very often when I do I enjoy every wave I ride. I strongly suggest taking a lesson if you ever get the opportunity!

(this is me a couple years ago on the North Shore!)

The summer is the perfect time to channel your inner surfer girl; whether you sport a hawaiian print suit, skimpy boardshorts, or soothe your skin with tropical apres surf lotion. Even watching an epic surf film like Endless Summer will be sure to put you in a beachy mood. I don't know what it is about surfer girls, but somehow even with their soaking bathing suits and sundrenched hair they manage to look effortlessy cool and have perfected summer style.

I'm Gonna be a Supermodel

Today was yet another boring day with not much to do. So, i decided what a a perfect opportunity to play dress up and style my sister and build up my [uber] amateur portfolio of styling! So, the little sis (although she looks older than me .. gr) kindly humored and allowed me to dress her up in all sorts of crazy outfits that she would never wear. What i've learned today: my photogaphy skills are lacking, it would be much more fun styling people in clothes that aren't my own, and my little sis rocks. So.. voila! I give you my attempts at styling... hey you've got to start somewhere right?

Lazy Days of Summer

All i've done today is sit around watching movies and making fashion collages from old magazines. As I was reading I found this article in vogue where they asked models about their vacation wardrobes. Aussie model Gemma Ward, talked about how she spends her summers wearing short sundresses and sneakers. I decided to try out her relaxed summer look and i think i found my quintessential summer outfit! Definitely a look i'd be able to wear all the time during the hot florida summer! I love the comfy sundress paired with low top converses, and my favorite (imitation) ray ban wayfarers.

Home Sweet Home!

I am so happy to be back from my jet-setting! Although i must say, i absolutely loved my tour of Europe! All the sights i saw were amazing! In just two weeks we traveled to London, Paris, Lucerne,Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice, Innsbruck, Munich, and Amsterdam. Of all the places I visited I believe Paris and Venice were my favorites, I loved the history, architecture, and of course fashion! Anyways.. I decided to wrap up some of the street and store window styles I saw in a few places of my trip. It's had a great impact on my wardrobe seeing what everyone's wearing abroad.. i'm going to have to keep a close eye on all the street fashion blogs!
