I'm trying to write for the local fashion magazine on campus for the menswear section. This is one of the story ideas i'm pitching.. something interesting to the main audience (girls), but still suitable for the menswear section. With all the menswear inspired trends all over the runways I think it's a cute idea! I love borrowing my boyfriend's baggy sweatshirts, but the concept of borrowing things that could actually be considered fashionable is a novel idea!
P.S. If you don't have a boyfriend you're not out of the loop! This also works by borrowing items from a brother or dad!:)

Lately ink blot prints have been popping up everywhere from the runway (Proenza Schouler) to housewares (rugs, coasters,etc.). The designs are based off of Rorsach's famous psychological ink blot tests. It's an interesting, modern looking take on traditional black and white. I think it's the "new" flocked print. It looks great with a splash of color for an updated look. I'd suggest wearing a plain ink blot print with something bright on the bottom like colored skinny jeans. I'm really wishing i had an apartment I could furnish with the ink blot housewares and decorative accents. If you're curious about the infamous ink blot test give it a go, it's pretty in depth, but may be for more mature readers.

It's been cold here for about a week and I can NOT tell you how many girls I've seen walking around in mini-skirts and ugg boots. Don't be a fashion clone! I know they're comfy/warm/cute(?), but there are so many other boots that are just as functional and have some individual flair! I dont have a problem with people wearing them as long as its not one of the horrid sweatpants/uggs or miniskirt/uggs combinations. haha I LOVE urban dictionary's definition of the infamous boots:
Uggs: Ugly preppy boots that people wear with mini skirts. NO They are not meant for snow, uggs are not waterproof. they started in australia, how often does it snow there? no they are meant to be worn after surfing, cuz they keep your feet dry and warm.
If you're looking for a winter boot go for something in trendy and warm shearling, or with a nordic print/ embroidery if you're looking for something really unique. If you'll be wearing the boots in the snow look for something with a slick waterproof exterior like the Aquatalia boots above.

So, Last night was the premiere episode of Project Runway that we've all anxiously waited a year for! I just thought i'd share my thoughts and ask you to do as well..
Are the contestants overqualified? I thought the experience of the designers on the show definitely exceeds any of the past seasons. It seems the judges have raised the bar for the contestants. As most of them own their own labels/stores, work for a major design firm, or graduated from a prestigious design school. It seems the show is no longer interested in finding raw, unpolished talent but, instead further devleoping the careers of somewhat accomplished designer. It's a step in a totally different direction but I guess it brings a new level of design to the show that should make things really interesting.
My personal favorite dress was Victorya's modern take on the little black dress with the metallic silver rosebud. I was positive that Elisa's unfinished, tacky dress with a 6ft long train would surely be auf'd.. so I was fairly schocked when it was Simone's simple dress in fresh colors. I thought the winner, Rami's dress was interesting, but overall not very flattering.
I'd love to hear everyone else's take on the new season!

I found a wonderful organization online where you get to expand/test your vocabulary while helping solve world hunger.. who knew the answer was that easy ? (only joking!). But, it's a nice distraction tool, that does some good as well. It works by donating 10 grains of rice for every vocabulary word you get correct, it all adds up and is sponsored by the companies showing sponsorship at the bottom of the screen. Everyone should check it out!

Ever since I saw the short film "Dollhouse" produced by Erin Fetherston and Heidi Ferjani @ Fashion U i've had girly, innocent clothes on the mind! The video's below, you have to see it.. it's kind of creepy but enchanting. The film features clothing from Fetherston's upcoming Go International Line. I had a dollhouse when I was little and I remember spending hours upstairs in my gramma's house playing with it and dressing the dolls up in cute outfits. Now that it's finally getting cold here I've been pairing my summery dresses with black tights & heels which seem to give the look of a real life doll. To get the "doll" look, go for feminine styles in soft fabrics, paired with big bows and rosy pink cheeks.

My mom has gotten me pretty addicted to Etsy and i've been looking at everyone's stores and finding some really unique pieces. I've already asked for an audrey hepburn screen printed laptop case (thanks mom!) I ran across the Buy Handmade pledge on Punky's blog. I love to support independent designers and crafters and etsy is a great way to find all those goodies in one spot. I've highlighted a few of my favorites, and I will continue to through the holiday season. Buying handmade is a great way to shop; everything you buy will be unique, support the indie artists, and is usually less expensive!
If anyone else has an etsy site of their own, or a favorite make sure to leave it!

me, as Holly Golightly- Halloween 2007
I love an excuse to get dressed up, so i'm sure like most fashionistas, I always look forward to Halloween as the one time of year I can wear whatever I want with out someone questioning whether I'm in style or not. I decided to go a classy route this year and dress as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
As a poor college student it was so nice being able to create a costume purely out of items in my closet, and as someone i truly admire. Although I was pretty surprised when half the people at the Halloween party I was at had no idea who I was or who she was.. poor souls haha.
Here are a few more halloween costumes from parties held in NYC's Gramercy Park last night:
