As I spend my last day in town before my day of international traveling, everything is slowly starting to click. I'll soon be spending the next 6 weeks, exploring other countries, cultures, and taking in every experience I can. As I triple check I have the essentials packed & go get last minute travel sized products & magazines for the flight I can't help but be insanely excited!
Figuring out what to wear on the plane, especially a long flight is a common dilemma! Choose comfortable but stylish bottoms, like these trendy harem pants. A cardigan to throw over a lightweight tank is perfect for freezing plane air conditioning. A watch is a stylish & functional accessory to help you adjust to a new time zone! A pair of flat shoes can become a vital part of an outfit if you need to dash to make a connecting flight. A fashion magazine & a good playlist are all I need to entertain me onboard!
What are your carry-on essentials while traveling on a plane?

Any packing advice?! What to leave behind? Is 6 pairs of shoes really neccessary?!

I decided to be spontaneous and get a hair cut before I leave for studying abroad! I cut 4 and half inches off of my hair and it's nice and lightweight and more manageable for traveling! I'm in an adventurous mood, i'm sure due to my upcoming trip and this quote by Audrey Hepburn seemed to capture how I'm feeling.
Today I'm wearing an XOXO dress I scored for less than $20 a while ago & Jessica Simpson heels from Marshalls. I paired it w/ coral colored chandelier earrings from Forever 21 and an old denim vest. I love the colorful pattern on the dress! I leave Monday.. I think you can see the excitement on my face!

I'm crazy over these pieces from S. Love's 09 collection! The label is comprised of Sally La Pointe, the creative side of the duo, and Sarah Adelson the business savvy side. Combined they create handpainted, one of a kind garments in NYC. The garments have an chic, downtown cool feel to them; definitely for the woman who wants to stand out. At the presentation of their collection they sent models down the runway with sleeves of edgy tattoos.
If you're one of a kind then why shouldn't your clothes be?
Where do you seek your inspiration from?
I am inspired by so many things! Shopping anywhere from vintage to hardware stores gets my mind churning. I am also really inspired by different tribal jewelry and from the places I have traveled to. Of course blogs, magazines, and entrepreneurial people able to make a business doing what they love, which would be my ultimate dream!!
How do you describe your personal style?
I think my style is a little grungy with some whimsical elements thrown in. I love wearing dresses with beanies or something feminine with one of my jewelry pieces to toughen it up.

My dad told me for Father's Day he didn't want me to spend any money on me and to just write him a poem instead. So, i've decided to instead declare my love & appreciation of him to the world via my blog. He really is a stylish dad.. he's worn converses for as long as I can remember. Recently I've talked him into wearing more vintage-y and surfer tees. He's always super supportive of me following my fashion dreams (this shot is from when he went with me to Miami for fashion week).
Love You Dad! Sorry I can't Be there for Father's Day! :)

This shot of Alessandra Ambrosia embodies everything that music festival style should be! How chic does she look in her cutoffs, loose fitting tee, headscarf, and stacked up bangles? I love that she looks like she's bobbing along to the music. Some friends just got back from Bonnaroo and said it was the time of their life!
Have you attended or do you plan on attending any summer concerts?

I've always loved rompers for the beach & a casual summery look, but never really considered wearing them in the evening. A dressier romper in a pattern or more luxe material is the perfect sizzling summer outfit. It can easily be taken from day to night with some heels & chic accessories.
This outfit shot of Leah via Put It On My Visa is the perfect example of how to rock the look for a night out. She's wearing a romper from Urban Outfitters with stacked on bangles & high heeled boots. She has tons of sartorial inspiration on her blog & is a recent grad of my university!
Would you wear a romper for an evening look?

I picked up this tie-dye top at an arts & crafts show a couple summers back while visiting my grandparents. It has a pretty crochet detail along the neckline & extremely blousy fit. Whenever I slip it on I feel as if I've been transported back to Woodstock and the Summer of Love. The boyfriend shorts are from Forever 21 and a bit baggy, thus super comfy. The beaded belt gives the outfit an extra touch of bohemian goodness.
It has not fully registered that I'm leaving for my trip in 11 DAYS! So much to do still. I think I better start planning out my outfits asap!
How's the milan/paris/london weather been, my international friends? Any advice on what to pack for six weeks?!

One of my favorite current trends is neon brights. They add a splash of instant summer and 80's optimism to any outfit. Colored accessories or even a coat of nail polish is an easy way to test out the trend. The acid wash look is not for the faint hearted, but is definitely do-able [See Rumi @ Fashion Toast for inspiration]. Slip them on and feel like you've stepped back in time to the front row of a '87 Def Leppard Concert.

A college bar my friends and I got to alot hosts an 80's music night every Friday. It's impossible to not dance the evening away when songs like "Don't Stop Believin" are blasting on the loud speaker. I love eighties tunes, you just can't help but be happy and dance when you're listening!
My Rad 80's Playlist
- Paradise City- Guns N' Roses
- Into the Groove- Madonna
- Pour Some Sugar on Me- Def Leppard
- More Than A Feelin'-Boston
- Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
- Your Love- The Outfield
- Girls Just Wanna Have Fun- Cyndi Lauper
- Beat It- Michael Jackson

I'm kind of obesssed with the 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort collection. I would wear every single piece in the show! He definitely knows who his target audience is & designs for the fashion forward young adult. Each look is a twist on classics. such as the shift dress made entirely of vintage looking lace & gold lame trousers in a slouchy sillhouette. I'm dying to get my hands on that "rock on" graphic tee!
A family friend is a trimmings buyer for the label so I can't help but think of her part in each of the designs and smile (and be insanely jealous of course!).

Sasha Pivovarova has the right idea to truly unwinding this Summer in Vogue China's April 09 issue. I can't really imagine anything more blissful than relaxing in a hammock dressed in floaty designer duds.

Hmm how would I describe this outfit? Perhaps Hipster Bohemian haha; I've got a quite bipolar taste in clothing. I'm also sporting a new darker hair color.. I call it Margherita Missoni Brown; I'm still getting used to it!
- Ikat Skirt: Billabong
- Purple V-Neck: Forever 21
- Navy Button Down: Thrifted
- Black Wedges: Nine West
- Pearl Pendant Necklace: T.J. Maxx
- Flower Headband: Forever 21
- Studded Watch Bracelet: Betsey Johnson
I've been working the v-neck/colorful skirt/fun accessories combo quite a bit this summer. It's such an easy look to pull together!
P.S. Check out my new summery header for La Petite Fashionista!

I have a folder on my computer overflowing with pictures that are inspiring me at the moment and felt the urge to post some! Ah, the joys of having free time during the summer. (For those of you who asked, I'll be leaving for my trip June 27th; so I only have a few more weeks of lazy days).
The pictures are all so different yet seem to look cohesive thrown together. I think that's a bit how I feel about fashion; sometimes pieces on their own look so random yet they can all be tied together in an outfit!

This is possibly the coolest marketing idea EVER. At age 20 I still don't get tired of the scavenger hunts my Aunt Beth throws for us during holidays. So, this grown up and fashion filled version of the scavenger hunt spurred by handbag designer Rachel Nasvik has me wishing again that I was spending my summer in the city.
Over the next two weekends 96 handbags will be hidden around New York City in everywhere from trendy bars to hot dog stands. The bags are stocked with essentials for a night on the town; lip gloss, bobby pins, accessories, and personalized playlist. Follow their twitter for clues to finding one of the bags for yourself and check out their blog for pictures of discovered bags.
If you're in New York you should totally make like Nancy Drew and play detective & find one of these treasures! Good Luck!

3. Make a parfait using fresh berries, vanilla yogurt, and granola
4. Revamp your clothes with a fun DIY [Carbon Couture always has great ones like this jacket inspired by Balmain!]
5.Organize a potluck dinner & game night with friends
6. Play with a puppy!
7.Volunteer! [The Fresh Air Fund still needs families to host NYC's inner city kids this summer!]
8. Try out runway make-up looks on yourself & do a photo shoot [harper's bazzar has a great how-to]
9. Create an inspiration board with magazine clippings & photos
10. Teach yourself how to line dance [it's really fun, I promise! & great exercise!]
I hope my suggestions come in handy! What are your boredom busting tips?

I'm loving these Vogue UK editorial images of Brit It Chick and transplant to the U.S. Alexa Chung. The editorial is styled much like her own day to day eccentrically pulled together outfits. She has a signature tomboyish style incorporating menswear pieces with florals & glam and sports a cropped shaggy haircut.
Chung, a UK t.v. personality & model is going to host a new show on MTV called "The Alexa Chung Show". A stylish beauty and a bit of British humor might just be what it takes to revitalize the network! Maybe she'll even be the new Lauren Conrad?
Doesn't it seem like an innate sense of style comes much easier for Brits? Ah, maybe i'll soak up some of their fabulousness while I'm there next month!

The Boy by Band of Outsiders collection came out last Fall, but the looks are exactly the style I'm going for this summer! I love the updated 80's sillhouettes like the oversized blazers, rayban wayfarers and slouchy one shoulder top. I've been looking to add more basics and classic pieces to my wardobe like these. The splash of yellow (my favorite color) brightens up any outfit. Kristen Dunst is the perfect model for the label!
P.S. I also wanted to announce that the randomly generated winner of the Chickdowntown.com/B.B. Dakota giveaway is comment #30, Mo-logue. Congrats!

While I'm waiting to leave for my study abroad session I get to live vicariously through all my friends exciting summer experiences. One of my friends is interning at the Scatola Showroom in New York City and let me know about the Vivienne Westwood Sample Sale she is helping to put together. If you're in NYC the next couple of days make sure to RSVP, it will definitely be worth checking out! [Edit: Also, Just found out that my friends from Stella Accessories will be there so you can check out their gorgeous hair accessories in person!]
(the Scatola showroom, ahh this makes me anxious for future summer internships!)
