Style Questions Answered: Cocktail Attire

A couple days ago I saw a message in my inbox from one of my guy friends from college. His dilemma was that he was going to a beach wedding with a "cocktail attire" dress code and had no idea what that required. I love that my friends are still forwarding their fashion questions to me a 1000 miles away, and I wanted to take the opportunity to write a post on it, with lots of spring weddings on the way!

For Women, Cocktail Attire can mean knee length dresses in silks and woven fabrics. I like the idea of brightly colored dress for a Spring wedding, and pairing it with fancier looking accessories and complementary shoes. Avoid cotton fabrics that can look too casual, sandals, and of course wearing the color white.

For Men, Cocktail Attire can be quite formal. Depending on the location of the wedding, look for a sport coat or blazer, with dress pants, and shoes that match. I like the idea of an oxford shirt with a pop of color underneath the jacket paired with a stylish, patterned tie. You can even go the extra mile and wear cuff links. Avoid tennis shoes, shorts, and going too casual; every girl loves a well dressed man!

Do you have any fashion dilemmas or questions I can help you out with! Feel free to email me or leave them in the comments!

The Higher the Hair the Closer to Heaven

I feel like "big hair" gets a bad rap. It gives people get flashbacks of 80's hair bands or Texas beauty pageants, but I am totally ready to bring it back. Of course in a different way; a little less hairspray, and teasing; no helmet head effect! This Allure editoral does it perfectly; super volumized and a little tousled; total bombshell.

Blue Crush

When YMI Jeans offered to send me a sneak peek of a few of their styles for Spring I jumped at the opportunity. I own a couple of pairs from previous collection and they've become my go-tos; cute and flattering! I love the flare style for Spring/Summer as an alternative to skinny jeans!
Photobucket
I wanted to create a look that felt effortlessly chic because that's my favorite way to wear denim! It's so hard taking outfit pictures when your hands go numb from the cold, but hey, I'm learning (and look! the snow is almost all melted away.. thank god!).

This style is available for pre-sale on their site now. Hope y'all have a beyond amazing weekend!!

Tricked Out Tribal Jewelry

Latest Lust: Tribal Jewelry
When it comes to accessories for Spring & Summer, I'm still loving statement necklaces. The new spin on the look though is in tribal inspired pieces with an African or Carribean feel. I'm absolutely LOVING all of these styles, unfortunately they're all super out of my price range so for now they'll just have to serve as inspiration!
All of these styles would look chic paired with a silk top & patterned skirt or boldly colored tank dress. They perfectly evoke feelings of summertime; now I'm on the hunt for something I can afford!

Live Colorfully: Trendy Turquoise

I'm continuing my Live Colorfully blog series with Turquoise as the hue of choice. It's one of my favorite colors; I'm obsessed with turquoise jewelry & love the relaxed feel it gives a room in interior design. I hope you find these as inspiring as I do!

Live Colorfully: Mellow Yellow

I loved Kate Spade's "Live Colofully" Campaign from the start. I'm a huge proponent for injecting lots of color into your wardrobe. Something about it just makes you happy. I've decided to dedicate my next few blog spots to some inspirational colorful pictures!Photobucket
When I was little, when most little girls claimed their favorite color as hot pink or baby blue, I decided I wanted to be different & decided yellow would be my favorite color (me wanting to be unique from a young age.. typical! haha). To this day, I still love yellow. My favorite flowers are yellow roses, my first car was a yellow truck, and I own more yellow dresses than one should admit to!

Q+A for You+Me

Photobucket
I saw this Q+A (w/ Alexa Chung) via the Classic Case and loved the idea of reading everyone else's responses so much I wanted to it for my own blog!
Here are my answers:
1. Guilty Pleasure: Snail mail letters, southern accents, pina coladas
2. Candy Bar: Kinder Bueno bars (though haven't had one since London)
3. House Plant: I've been buying fresh flowers for my house lately!
4. Nail Polish Color: Silvery lavender, teal blue, taupe
5. Midnight Snack: a bowl of Reese's Puffs cereal
6. Drugstore Essential: Burts Bees chapstick & fiji water
7. Weird Habits: Saying "y'all" like no one's business!
8. Pet Peeve: lying, when girls complain that they look fat, being sold out of my size

Now, leave me your answers pretty please! I love getting to know who's reading my blog :)

Hair Bows, Sequins & Motorcycle Boots

Right as the weather is starting to warm up I'm just finally figuring out how to start layer my cold weather clothes! I love this cardigan because it's super warm and cozy (wool fiber content) & such a bright pop of color! It certainly brigtens up any outfit (plus it matched my adorable bow; a birthday gift from one of my fashionista friends).

Have you been sporting spring-y colors in your winter wardrobe too?

L.P.F.'s Latest Lusts: March 2011

So today's officially my twenty-second birthday! I'm happy to start the big 22 off in a place I never would have expected had you asked me last year at this time. I'm so unbelievably excited to be pursuing my fashion career and seeing where life takes me!
LPF's: Latest Lusts [March 2011]
Spring fashion has been on the mind lately. Some of the things I'm digging are:
  • Silk Blazers: perfectly unstructured and casual for spring
  • Colorful Scarves: the easiest way to dress up a basic tee
  • Fresh Flowers: it's an instant pick-me-up seeing them in my house
  • O.P.I. Texas Collection: so many unique colors inspired by the Lone Star state
  • Straw Fedora: for those days you don't feel like doing your hair
  • Backless Dresses: love the element of surprise with a basic front & scoop back
  • Strappy Wedges: super comfy w/ a unique spin in bright spring shades
I'm tempted to buy those wedges as a birthday present to myself! From the teal color to the strappy style, they pretty much scream "me"!

What are you loving lately?

Happy FOURTH Birthday LPF!

I can't believe that my blog is celebrating its FOURTH birthday! It's been an amazing four years writing L.P.F!  It's so exciting to see a blog I started as a hobby as a high school senior turn into something so much bigger; it's certainly come a long way! Not only my blog, but the blogging world and its connection to fashion in general has grown immensely since L.P.F.'s inception in March 2007!
Photobucket
Here are a few of my favorite vintage posts from the past four years at La Petite Fashionista:
Not only is my blog turning 4 years old, but I'll be celebrating my 22nd birthday in a few days! It's absolutely insane to see how much has changed (& dreams I've followed) since I started blogging. I know it's helped keep me motivated! I am SO thankful for all the incredible readers and supporters of my blog, you're awesome!

I'd love to hear absolutely any feedback you have of what you like about my site & what you'd like to see more of!

Inspired by: Amy Butler's Midwest Modern

My mom introduced me to Amy Butler's print designs back when we were both avid scrapbookers. Ever since I've been drawn to her floral, geometric, and vintage-y prints in the most beautiful color combos. She has a collection called "Midwest Modern" which I absolutely love.Plus, it's so inspiring that she creates all her designs out of her studio in small town Ohio.
These are a few images from the inspiration file on her site using her textile & paper designs:

They add such a fun pop of print in interior decor (I have a few pillows made from her fabric), but also make a gorgeous textile ;I love the idea of the giant printed sash!
