Inspired by: the Night Sky

When I was little, every night my dad would pull my little sister and I along in a little red wagon all padded with blankets and take us for a walk around the block teaching us about the constellations. To this day, I can still point out Orion's belt & the big and little dipper.
Now, one of my favorite things about living far from the city lights is looking up every night to see a sea of twinkling stars, I'll never take it for granted!
Photo-real galaxy prints and accessories inspired by constellations have been popping up on Christopher Kane's runway to bedazzled Jessica Kagan bangles. I love how futuristic it feels.

This Street Peeper shot shows that this space age trend works in real life too:
This post is also inspired by my super smart best friend & astrophysics grad student, Joce! In college we'd trade stories from her classes about Einstein's theories and my history of dress classes.. Miss you!

How to: Pack the Perfect Picnic

With summer slowly fading away and fall quickly approaching. I want to take the opportunity to enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. One of the things I've yet to do is have a picnic. There is something so perfectly nostalgic and simple about packing up your food in a basket and dining outside in the fresh air.

What would be your essential item to pack for a picnic (mine would be a little bit of vino!)?

To the Pointe

As someone who has danced their whole life and ripped more pale pink tights than I'd like to admit (I've never been the graceful type). I LOVE J. Crew's use of Russian ballerinas in their latest catalog to model their cashmere sweaters.
Ballerina style has always appealed to me; these looks are inspired by my favorite pieces; black leotards, tulle skirts, and lace up shoes. Top knot bun not required, but would look incredibly cute with these styles.

Farmer's Market Fabulous

One of my favorite parts of living around Madison, is the world's largest farmer's market every Saturday. It's so fun to buy fresh produce and flowers from some of the farms I drive past every day in the area. It's also a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Midwest summer weather.
Though no one looks this glam at our farmer's market, I love this Vogue Brazil editorial:

Game Day Glam

I was never one of those girls who cared about or knew anything about football. That is, until the day I stepped foot on the Florida State University campus. Since that memorable move-in day freshman year of college, I've become a tried and true Seminoles fan.
With kickoff a mere few weeks away, I obviously have college football on the brain. At FSU, I loved dressing up for the games, forget t-shirts and cutoffs; I'm more of a sundress and sandals (or cowboy boots), kinda girl. These were some looks that I was loving for a little bit of glam on gameday.
I'm hoping to become a Wisconsin fan too, now that I live in Wisco!
Are you a football fan? If so, what do you wear when you're rooting for your team?

P.S. My friend & fellow nole, Chandra, is making the cutest gameday bracelets in any university's colors! check em out here!

Color Trends: Autumn Romance

As much as I love summery brights, I'm really excited for a transition into fall colors. This is an inspiration board I've pulled together with some of my favorite shades for autumn. I'm loving the deep teal and purple, and muted pastels.

Knotted Shirts & Maxi Skirts

I can hardly believe that summer's almost over. It's been so much fun, and I've definitely enjoyed the warm weather to the max. It's already starting to cool off in Wisconsin, so I'm thinking of how I want to transition my summer wardrobe to fall.
How To: Transition into Fall
One of my favorite looks is knotted tees and oxford shirts paired with maxi skirts. It's been popping up all over the place in street style blogs and I love how it's such a wearable trend. These are a few of my favorite examples of the style in action:

5 Things I Didn't Learn in Class

As a recent Florida State University graduate, I feel at liberty to share some of the things that I wish I knew in college. I get alot of emails asking about how to pursue a career in fashion or how to dress for less so here is some of my sage advice! ;)
1. Take advantage of your local surroundings: If you move away to school, take full advantage to soak up the area you'll be living in for the next 4 years. Visit touristy spots, try new restaurants and take lots of pictures.

A weekend roadtrip to the beach in Destin!
 2. Living in dorms is not as bad as it sounds: I made some of my closest friends while living in that shoe box sized room! I just wish Dormzy had been around when I was in school- they're a service that delivers groceries and other goodies; absolutely GENIUS.
My freshman year dorm! oh the memories.

3. Share clothes with roomies & shop for good deals: A college kid fashion budget is rough. Swap going out looks with friends so you never have to repeat the same outfits & shop the sales to build your closet.
All dressed up for a bestie's 21st birthday!
4. Pick a major you feel passionately about: I chose fashion merchandising because I couldn't imagine working in any other industry. Yes, I had to deal with people telling me I would NEVER find a job, but look at me now; an assistant merchant, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
At one of  our Fashion Club's fabulous fashion shows.
5. Keep in touch!: With facebook and social media use at an all time high you think it'd be easy to keep in touch. College can be such a crazy busy time, but remember to stay in touch and maintain the relationships you want to hold on to! (Aunts & Grammas send the best care packages!)
My best friends forever :)
I had an amazing time in college. I had the best group of friends ever, became a huuuge college football fan (go noles!), and chased my dreams. I can't wait to see what happens in the next chapter!
What's your fave piece of college advice or what questions do you have?

Personal Style Blogs i'm Loving

As much as I love posting pictures of my own outfits, I don't have a nice digital camera and have to depend on my self-timer instead of having a personal photographer and look funny when I'm not smiling goofily. So, I give major to kudos to personal style bloggers who continuously post inspirational and gorgeous outfit pictures!
These are a few bloggers I've stumbled upon whose personal style I absolutely love:
A fellow Nole girl! Love her style that's preppy w/ a twist + that like myself, can rock a pair of cowboy boots & lots of accessories!

Kristina is a chic Norweigan. I love that she's petite too, but not afraid to sport maxi dresses and take fashion risks w/ pieces like harem pants & colorblocking.

Ciao,Venice!

I'm always dreaming up where I want to travel next; I have an unquenchable wanderlust (i love that word). So naturally I'm drawn to any lookbooks with one of my favorite locales as a backdrop. The new Free People lookbook is full of their signature boho looks with an opulent seventies flair shot in Venice, Italy.

I'm loving the crocheted knits, floppy hats, maxi skirts, and capes! I'm never disappointed by Free People. One of my friends from college just got a job in the Urban Outfitters corporate office, and her tumblr is a fun peek into life at their never boring, always stylish headquarters!
