How could you not have a great day when you're wearing fuchsia pants?

Here at LPF, I like to practice what I preach! After lots of lusting over colorful pants I finally broke down and got a pair from J. Crew (well, two but more on that later). My mom was visiting in Wisconsin and we went shopping for early birthday gifts (I will be 23 in a couple weeks & LPF will be turning 5!!).

I paired my fuchsia pants with a champagne colored sparkly sweater, but I can't wait to wear them all spring  paired back to colorful tanks and cuffed with sandals.I'm also rocking a new shade of coral lipstick from Sephora, in "Coral Coquette".

I picked up a cute pink, rosette clutch from Target. I've been using it to keep the essentials in for my daily purse changing & wear it on its own when going out.

What's your latest lust this week?

FW12 Runway Trends for Real Life

I love fashion week. Working in the fashion industry has truly given me a new respect for all the thought work and detail that goes into every last stitch of a garment that comes down the runway. I always end each season feeling totally inspired, and wishing I could be wearing everything already.

As much as I love the avant garde pieces from each collection. It's really exciting to see things that look like you could practically wear them right off the runway. These are a few of the collections that felt just like that for me:

Burberry FW12 Trends: preppy rugby stripes, rugged canvas jackets, and bow belt details. A mix of feminine silk fabrics with traditional tweeds and the occasional quirky graphic tee thrown in to keep things from feeling too serious.

J. Crew FW12 Trends: Unexpected shades for fall; mint, hot pink, lipstick red, and royal blue. Fairisle sweaters in un-traditional shades, stripes, snakeskin, jeweled collars, and long coats to top off a look.

DSquared FW12 Trends: Layered to the max with sweaters and toggle coats, cropped pants, and striped sweaters. Leopard accents and fifties feel with cateye glasses & bouffant hair.

Mara Hoffman FW12 Trends: Traditional Ethnic prints, hammed metal jewerly, dress cutouts, floaty maxi dresses, and Indiana Jones headwear.

Thakoon FW 12 Trends: Fur vests, spacedye marled yarn knits, collared shirts layered under sweaters, wool navajo coats, maxi dresses, knotted shirt dresses, earth tones.

Have you been following FW12 Fashion Week? If so, what have your favorite shows been? Or which is your favorite of these designers' collections?

At Home with LPF

Anyone who follows me on pinterest can see that I've been pinning home decor like a mad woman. Now that I've been in my place for a year, I'm anxious to switch up existing decor and add some new treasures. I wanted to show everyone some of the decor in my living room.

Here I am with my newly organized bookcase & mint sweater layered over a vintage gingham button down.

Lately I've been searching design blogs, etsy, ebay & making a shopping list for antique stores.  I'll be excited to share my decorating progress on LPF!

Valentine's Day lillies from my boyfriend, pretty new pillows from etsy & an old window display of Grace Kelly covering an entire wall.

A bookcase full of my favorite things; fashion books, pictures of family, high heels, shells & pretty prints // my diy-ed "L" from my creative bestie Kelly @ Hello Boudreau

Do you have pinterest? Send me your links! I love to see what's inspiring everyone else! (& add me!)

Treasure Hunting on Etsy

As most of you know, I'm a huge etsy junkie. I love supporting independent artists & crafters and buying something unique and handmade! I'm always enthralled by the treasuries that etsy rotates on their homepage every day. They always seem like the perfect collection of items that fit the theme. I decided to create my first collection of goodies, featuring all things that remind me of being a florida girl.

From the key lime cake bites, tie dyed beach towels, sharks teeth necklaces, and orange blossom votives, it makes me smile and think of home just looking at it!

Are you an etsy fan too? I encourage you to create your own treasury & share. It's fun to play art curator weave a common thread between all of the handmade goodies on the site.

a Southern Soiree

My birthday is an entire month away still, but, I can't help but dream up what kind of celebration I'd like to have this year. I absolutely love living in the Midwest, but sometimes I miss things about the South (best bbq ever, being able to say y'all without anyone looking at me funny, and warm weather to name a few). So, I think for my 23rd birthday, I'd like to bring a taste of Southern living to my friends up here.

These are some of my inspirations for a Southern Soiree:
  • Bandanna table runners for a buffet of southern favorites
  • Mini bbq pork sliders,  mac & cheese bites & personal pecan pies
  • Chalkboard with a menu of southern favorites
  • Drinks served in mason jars with chalkboard tags to write your name
  • A rope sign with the birthday girl's name (a girl can dream right?!)
  • Other ideas include: line dancing lessons, a country music playlist & corn hole game

I also have a drink recipe card for the perfect beverage of the evening:

What would your dream birthday party theme be?

A Colorful Outlook on Pants

One of my absolute favorite trends for Spring is a colored pant. It's the perfect way to brighten up any outfit. As a color obsessed fashionista this is one trend I definitely want to spruce up my closet with. I like a chino rather then denim; something a bit looser, cuffed and the ankles and paired with heels or ballet flats.

These bloggers make it look easy; but truly anyone can pull off the colorful pant. Pair it with neturals on top for a look that's a bit safer and tie it together with a colorful accessory.

I'm pretty much in love with J. Crew's giant selection of colorful chino shorts & pants. Seriously that fuchsia shade is just too awesome to pass up.

What do you think of the colorful pant trend? Is it something you'd wear?

Spring Style Guide: Dresses & Jackets

Today's sunshine has me tempted to break out my spring sundresses. It's certainly not warm enough to bare my shoulders, but I love the idea of layering jackets & cardigans over floaty dresses. It's perfect when you just can't wait to break out your spring wardrobe but it's a bit too chilly!
Spring Style Guide: Dresses & Jackets
I also have some blogger inspiration to see how they transition their  wardrobe to incorporate spring dresses with layered on jackets. It's one of my favorite looks right now.

What's your favorite way to start transitioning into your spring-y clothes when it's not quite warm enough yet?

Loving this Line: Annechovie

Happy Valentine's Day everyone, hope you a fabulous day. While scouring etsy for home decor this week I stumbled upon, Annechovie, an etsy shop by Anne Harwell. Her illustrations and painting range from iconic furniture to stylish living rooms to decorative matchboxes. I love her colorful style and will definitely be buying a print for my own home!

These are a few of my favorites prints from Annechovie (all the prints are an affordable, $30!!)

Latest Lust: Palm Beach Chic

As I'm in the process of redecorating my living room, I've realized most of the inspiration pictures I've been pinning have a bit of Palm Beach chic look to them. I think being so far away from FL makes me want to decorate with bright colors, prints and patterns. Specifically coral prints, chevons, and Chippendale furniture.

I'm especially drawn to vintage Palm Beach images; think Jackie O. jumping off yachts in her Jack Rodgers Sandals, Lilly Pulitzer opening up her first colorful storefront and palm tree lined streets. I also love that preppy-ish Palm Beach interior decorating style is trending lately as well.

Today, I did a little bit of thrifting and just happened to stumble upon just what I was looking for:

a 60's printed photo album & vintage shell jewelry

These vintage kitchen finds are perfect too; a sea turtle & straw trivets.

Does where you grew up inspire your personal style?

Latest Lust: Layered Shirts; Preppy with a Twist

One of my favorite looks lately is a layered shirt with a pop color sweater, or vice-versa. With it being a chilly February, I'm so anxious to break out spring clothes, but it's too cold. So, I've settled for injecting color and pattern yet still staying warm with this layered style. Some of my favorite bloggers have been spotted wearing this look lately.

I normally don't like the way button downs look at me, but this a new way to wear a classic wardrobe item. You can even experiment layering a sweater over a shirt dress or a sheer blouse with a colorful or novelty printed sweater.

Get the Look: layered shirts & sweaters

Preppy styling has definitely seen a revival lately. If that's not your style try the trend out wearing a brightly colored button down or intarsia sweater and some statement jewels for a look that's all your own.

Would you wear this look?

Try this Trend: iPad Cases for the Gadget Girl

For Christmas this year, I was incredibly surprised/excited to get an iPad from my awesome parents (thanks mom & dad!). Knowing how terrible I am with breaking technology, I've been on the hunt for a stylish case; something sturdy with a little bit of personality.

These are some of my favorite iPad case finds-- I'm leaning towards the folio case to be able to prop it up to watch movies while traveling or laying in bed. Also, whenever I make it to fashion week, it'd be the perfect runway show companion to blog on the go!

I also wanted to share some of my favorite apps for the iphone/ipad:
  • Cool Hunter: Vsuals of the newest fashion, interior, design, and lifestyle trends
  • Runway coverage from all the fashion shows
  • ASOS Mag: U.K. retailer ASOS, puts out a totally inspiring digital fashion mag
  • Pinterest: My latest addiction!
  • An app for my new fave sample sale site!
  • Netflix: I love finding new t.v. series for follo & it's perfect while traveling
  • Recipe Grazer: Tons of foodie inspiration
  • Scramble: I'm a total scrabble nerd and love challenging my friends
  • Instagram: Makes all your pictures look cuter
I'm also adoring these monogrammed ipad cases from etsy shop, Stuck on Charming; too cute! Obviously as a blogger, I think fashion & technology are perfect pairs.

What's your favorite app? I'm always looking for more to add!

A Red Hot Date Look & V-Day for the Single Lady

Valentine's Day is only a week away, what are your plans? I like to use it as an excuse to dress like a total girly girl and indulge in sweets! I was lucky enough to spend the past weekend with my boyfriend at Disney World, & the happiest place on earth didn't let us down. I'm sure our Valentine's Day will be much more low key, but I'm excited to DIY him something special!

eRed Hot Date Look

Nordstrom has some of my favorite date night looks from red lipstick to chic cocktail dresses. They were kind enough to give me a gift certificate and invite me to take their Valentine's Day lingerie quiz. It seems any girl seems instantly self assured with pretty little underthings on and they have something for every style!

love this smoky eye tutorial via beauty and the feast

Don't worry single ladies, I didn't forget you! In my many past years of single-dom, I've found that the best way to deal w/ all the lovebirds on Valentine's Day is to love yourself!

Valentine's Day for the Single Lady
Get together other single friends for some wine drinking, cupcake baking, and romantic movie watching (Midnight in Paris is one of my new favorites; it's a must see if you haven't yet)!

If you're feeling ambitious try making these red velvet cupid's arrow cupcakes from bakerella!

What's your favorite romance movie?

LPF Guide to: Traveling in Style

Tomorrow I'm jetting off to Florida for a long weekend of warm weather & fun in the sun. With the dreariness we've had the past couple of weeks, I can't wait for a little escape! When it comes to traveling, comfort rules, but style prevails. I'm always that girl in the security line that takes 5 minutes to take off all her bracelets (sorry!).

LPF Guide to: Traveling in Style

Some of my favorite travel tips are:
  • Bringing a scarf because planes always get so chilly.
  • Packing a spare pair of clothes and some make-up in your carry on in case a checked bag gets lost (this happened to me in Milan while studying abroad!)
  • Bring your own snacks, planes rarely give out more than peanuts during flights these days.
  • A brightly colored suitcase or luggage tag makes it easy to spot on the conveyor belt.
  • Invest in an IPAD or kindle (i'm a proud new owner). It's the perfect travel accessory. It's so nice not to have to lug around 10 pounds of fashion magazines!
Kate Spade has a pinterest (yay!) & their travel colorfully board is full of great wanderlust inspiration:

Bon Voyage! Where would you like to take your next trip to?
