Exciting News for LPF!!

Drumroll please.... I'm so excited to share with everyone that I've decided to launch a digital fashion/lifestyle magazine, LPF Mag! It's something I've been wanting to do for a really long time, and after an inspiring chat last week I've decided there's no better time than the present!

So, what will LPF Mag be about?

Aritcles and stories on everything from fashion, interior design, travel, DIY, entertaining, beauty, inspiring women entrepreneurs + more! The spin on this will be that I want to make everything I feature truly attainable, real, and relatable for readers (think summer dresses for $65 or less, real girl's home tours, parties w/ DIY touches, etc!).

I mean, love a fancy designer dress as much as the next girl, but it's definitely not within my means.  I know there are so many readers with a lifestyle like me, who love fashion, party hosting, decorating and still manage to have glamour and style in their life while still being in college, a young professional, or starting a new family! This is why I am so passionate about creating a magazine that features just that.

I hope you're as excited about this as I am and it resonates with you as well :)

I want readers to feel as involved as possible in the content! Here's an easy way to be a part of the first issue--- tweet or email me a picture of your favorite item in your closet!

So, here's what I need from you...

If you have any interest in contributing, whether your talents lie in writing editorial content, photography, graphic design, editing, PR, or even story ideas. Send them my way! If you're a brand and want to get involved please contact me as well, there are plenty of advertising and editorial opportunities!

Email me:
Tweet me + follow us on twitter: @LPFMag

Once LPF Mag launches, I'll need your help to spread the word + will have lots of fun in store for readers. I'm so excited to already have interest and support. I can't wait to start this journey with you all while I follow my dreams. It's going to be quite a project, but something I really believe in!

Beachy Summer Hair & Makeup Tutorial

I never consider myself much of an expert on hair and makeup, but I do have a signature summer look that is my go-to. I love some bronzer, shimmery eyeshadow, subtle & somewhat messy waves and a boho braid. It's easy to do, it's very me and it goes with anything that I'm wearing!

In my four years of blogging I rarely do any video blogs or tutorials, so when GHD asked me to do a hair tutorial, I immediately took them up! They're a great place to buy hair products online. Check out my how-to to get this boho, beachy summertime hair & makeup look for yourself!

Oh geeze, I'm such a dork on camera & do you know how scary it is to go make-upless on camera? Also, the song in the background is one of my favorite summery surfery tunes ("Falling" by Iration) in case you were wondering!

Here is the DIY for Beach Hair Spray I mentioned in the video:

Let the Sea Set you Free

I just got Roxy's Summer catalog in the mail and had to share it. The editorial photography is absolutely beautiful and is making me thisclose to compulsively booking a surf escape to Bali. Working in the fashion industry I have a huge appreciation for a way to show product that is inspiring and makes you want to buy everything off the pages. The people at Roxy are pros at this.

Let this put you in a sunny state of mind!

I've been dreaming up where my next vacation will be. I'm thinking somewhere beachy, relaxing, with fruit drinks flowing freely. Sounds amazing right?

And just for giggles, I stumbled upon this gem the other day going through pictures; see what a little florida surfer girl 15 year old Lauren was (messy hair, super tan, hawaii tank & shell necklace)? ;)

that's my friend amy, bestie since we were babies Kelly @ Hello Boudreau, & Me!

So lovelies, where would your dream summer getaway be?

LPF Cooks: Healthy Egg White Bites

As I've shared on LPF, I'm on a mission to learn how to cook/bake/entertain, become the hostess with the mostess. One of the biggest challenges for me is finding the time to whip up something that's healthy AND delicious, especially in the morning when I try to devote as much time as possible to sleeping + getting ready.

So, I plan on bringing you all more easy to recreate recipes that I've tested in my own kitchen!

These healthy egg white bites are simple to make, delicious, and HEALTHY (yay).

The best part, is these can be made with whatever's sitting in your fridge and make ahead of time and store in your fridge for breakfast!

Make sure to spray the muffin tin w/ cooking spray & you can also use regular eggs if you'd like!

I liked to experiment with different combos; turkey & feta, mozarella & basil, and kale & garlic cheddar. I also sprinkled some minced garlic in some, and a dash of salt & pepper in others.

Let cool & store extras (reheat for 30 sec in microwave after refrigerating) I'd like to add I tried to make these somewhat healthy, but you could also do a more decadent version (bacon & brie perhaps?)

I know there's a lot of busy fashionistas like myself out there who still want to take the time to make a homecooked meal! You can trust me when I'm saying I'm no cooking expert, so these will be easy for anyone!

What would you like to see more recipes for?  Healthy meals, Party Appetizers, Dinners, Desserts, etc?

Try this Trend: Chic Cutouts

Today's outfit felt like the perfect preppy springtime ensemble. I picked up this navy & green striped tank for $12 this weekend and paired it w/ a denim jacket & white lace skirt from last spring. I started a clothing rack of my favorite spring dresses + accessories that make it oh-so-easy to get dressed in the morning!

rugby stripes & lace skirt

love the cutouts!

Dresses with cutouts on the back are one of my favorite spring trends. It's one of those looks that's a great wear-to-work AND happy hour looks. Just wear w/ a cardigan or blazer & flats during the day and throw on a pair of heels & statement necklace for evening.

What's your go-to look for work that you can still wear for post drinks w/ the girls?

Summer Date Ideas

I love a night in watching a movie as much of the next girl, but when the weather warms up there's so much opportunity for fun dates and experiences. Take advantage of summer time & summer love and try out some of these date ideas w/ your significant other (or friends!)

I like to take advantage of the local sights and look for groupon deals to try new restaurants and experiences on the cheap. Luckily Wisconsin is full of breweries to visit and quirky attractions (Mustard Museum anyone?).

I'm a big fan of getting out to enjoy the great outdoors whether it's camping and s'more making or kayaking on the lake. I also love the idea of taking mini road trips to get out of town for the day or the weekend (bring these printable couples roadtrip questions!)

Me + K at the local comedy club :)

What are you favorite date ideas? I'll add them to our summer to-do list!

Heart Sweater Love

I've always had a thing about hearts! Since I was a little girl I've always signed my name with a big heart after it (see my current signature for all my posts!). So when the J. Crew Heart Sweater came out this winter I of course needed to add it to my closet. As cheesy as it sounds, hearts just make me happy, and I love this peach/tangerine color combo.

Paired w/ baggy boyfriend jeans for a casual friday look

love this little quote right now!

a closeup w/ my bracelets and peach cocktail ring

i love the juxtposition of girly girl and tomboy!

My awesome parents gave me one of their cameras they rarely used (thank you!!!) so hopefully I'll be having some better pictures + more outfit pictures on the blog! I'm seriously the most awkward outfit picture taker ever. My neighbors always seem to be outside gawking at me like I'm a weirdo.

So please, leave me your outfit picture taking tips y'all!

Show your Stripes

For a long time I was scared to rock stripes. Maybe it's silly, but hearing that "horizontal stripes make you look bigger" was enough to keep striped tees out of my wardrobe. Thankfully, fashion rules are made to be broken and I now have a closet full of them.

The striped tee is a wardrobe staple, whether a classic b&w breton stripe or a colorful blanket stripe. These are some of my favorite striped shirts for Spring:

Show your Stripes

You can wear them with absolutely anything. Pair them with jeans for a classic look, throw on a floral scarf to rock the print mixing trend, or with some neon pants to mix and match.

Look no further for striped tee inspiration; these fashionistas have the look perfected. Get inspired!

Just Peachy

Today's post shows that I really do practice what I preach on LPF.  I don't just blog about trends and diy's unless it's something I'd do myself! Remember when I was musing about colorful pants a couple months back? I am loving this pair of  bright peach chinos from J. Crew paired with a knotted chambray tunic.

some arm candy & sparkly sandles + essie turq & caicos

Also, this weekend I was feeling inspired by the ideas from my DIY vanity post and bought two glass cake stands to stack to organize my jewelry. I love the way it turned out! It's nice being able to see accessories rather than storing them in boxes.

Hope your week is just peachy!

Must Read Online Mags

I've always sworn by paper magazines. I have so many inspiration tears and archived issues (thank god I saved my old Domino mags!). I still love the tangibility of magazines, but since I'm so involved in the digital world I naturally love all the digital design and fashion mags online!

These are some of my favorite picks for online mags; some old, some new, all wonderful!

Must Read Online Mags

  1. Matchbook Mag: For leading a charmed life; perfect for the Kate Spade, Lilly Pulitzer loving girl who loves a modern twist on the classics.
  2. Lonny: One of the first digital design mags; focues on trendy and unique interiors and design picks.
  3. Rue:  Incredible inspiration in everything from fashion to interiors to entertaining.
  4. Sweet Paul: DIY & Baking imagery that will have you feeling extra ambitious in the kitchen.
  5. Sweet Lemon Mag: Written by and for the "jane of all trades" (love that!)
  6. House of Fifty: Ideas for inspired living; a lifestyle mag for making design attainable.
  7. Adore Home: An Aussie publication full of colorful & beautiful homes from around the world
  8. Fete:  Ideas for parties and entertaining that are real, accessible and authentic.
  9. Ivy & Piper: A lookbook of gorgeous interiors and the newest home decor products.
Now that I have my iPad, it makes reading digital mags easier than ever, I love it! I think I'd even like to start one of my own someday in the future (any interested contributors?)

What are your favorite digital mag reads? I'd love to add some to my list!

Guide to: Bracelet Mixing

As I've said in my LPF mantra, I always have a wrist full of bracelets. It's kind of my thing. I usually wear a  watch mixed with bangles & some colorful bracelets but I like to switch it up all the time. Bracelet mixing can be tricky at times, though I'm here to de-mystify the "arm party" trend (thanks man repeller for coining!)
Guide to Bracelet Mixing
The trend is really about mixing and matching different materials, either matching back colors to your outfit or the other accessories is always a safe bet. It's all about self expression though so throw on all your bracelets and mix and match until you find a combination you love!

Are you a serial bracelet mixer yourself? I have my college roomie, Brooke to thank for starting me on the trend way back freshman year. I haven't gone back since!

What's your bracelet mixing style; trendy, classic, boho or a style all your own?

Latest Lust: Vanity Desks

In my new bachelorette pad, space will be quite a bit more limited. I love the idea of using a desk as a vanity  area to do my hair and make-up and desk/office space.  Stash curling irons, blow dryers and additional make-up in one drawer and pens and stationery in the other to give the space multiple uses.

Try using traditional home decor items to brighten up and organize a vanity area. Trays are perfect for organizing make-up and jewelry, and jars and vases are ideal for storing brushes.
Get the Look: Vanity Desks
These are some of my absolute favorite inspirations for vanity areas that could double as desks/office space. It's the perfect solution for those like me with limited space to work with:

a Spring in Your Step

I am rarely seen without a pair of extra high heels on, but honestly, I'm not much of a stiletto heels girl. I think wedges are so much more comfortable and can easily look casual or dressy. They are my go during warm weather sundress season! These are a few of my top picks for under $100!

Stylish Spring Wedges Under $100

From striped to seafoam and crochet to colorblocks, these are some of my favorite spring wedge trends! I can hardly pick a favorite, but I think I need a few to add to my shoe collection (did I mention my new place will have a walk in closet?!).

Which is your favorite pair of shoes?

April Inspiration Board

So many things to be excited about this month; the unseasonably warm weather has me excited for all things summer and I found out over the weekend that I will indeed have a new bachelorette pad & roomie in June in the "big city" of Madison. I am so excited to start decorating and entertaining in our new place (the pool is a nice perk as well! I'm envisioning many lazy saturdays by the pool).

These are a few of the things inspiring me this month:

1. pastel layering // 2. DIY lipstick art //  3. "I Brake for Yard Sales" book // 4. champagne + lemon sorbet + mint cocktails for summertime// 5. craft paper placemats & dinner parties// 6. blue eyelet dress  from spool 72// 7. mix & matched china // 8. sheer lilac shirtdresses// 9. jewelry wall art

What's inspiring you this month?

LPF Cooks: BBQ Beer Chicken + Mac & Cheese

If I could make elaborate home cooked meals every night I certainly would. Unfortunately, being a working girl/starving by the time I get home is not in my favor. Which is why I LOVE my crockpot, it's perfect for busy fashionistas!

Yesterday morning I just threw all my ingredients in and when I got home my house smelled like a Texas BBQ restaurant.   I made the mac & cheese the night before so it was so easy to bring it over to my boyfriends place for a southern style dinner.

Slow Cooker BBQ Beer Chicken Sandwiches

Let me tell you, I love my BBQ chicken, and this BBQ Beer Chicken was so good (recipe inspired by How Sweet It is). It even got the boyfriend seal of approval (I mean, really, anything with beer in it!).

Another one of my favorite dishes to make is homemade mac & cheese, which my amazing gramma used to make and I love to carry on her tradition. It's simple but delicious. I make mine pretty plain, but I'd love to try some tasty add-ins.

Gramma's Mac & Cheese

I am so not a food photographer, but I promise it was an easy and delicious home cooked meal. If I can do it, I promise you can too!

Hope y'all have a great weekend & Easter!

DIY Watercolor Wall "Art"

This past weekend I was feeling extra ambitious and decided to break out the watercolors and acrylic paints. I've been super inspired by decor I've seen on pinterest and I always love the weekly watercolors by Caitlin McGauley on Matchbook Mag's blog. I am by no means a talented artist but I do like getting creative!

These are a couple of pieces I painted on canvas & in watercolor as I watched Mad Men and diy-ed my friday night away.

this one was inspired by an abstract piece on pinterest, the colors are more pastel in real life!

this monogram chevron piece already found a place on my bedroom wall (it's actually more of a minty/peach combo)

this watercolor piece turned out really imperfect, but i think that's what i like about it :)

Have you every DIY-ed any wall art? It's crazy inexpensive! All you need is a couple of blank canvases, a set of brushes, and some acrylic paints in fun colors. Watercolors were fun too, I haven't done any since I was a little kid. My gramma always encouraged me to paint & be creative when I was growing up, I was always at her house doing arts and crafts!

I've always loved this quote below & image via matchbook mag.

Feeling Creative

What's your latest creative project?
