Fall Styling Tips with J. Crew

As usual I'm loving J.Crew's mix of traditional and trendy for their fall collection. I wanted to share some of their fall styling tips from their website. As much as I love summer, it's getting me a teensy bit excited for fall layering!

I am a big fan of the nude lips, cheetah heels, camo shirt & garment dyed pants! Below are my ideas for getting the look with these key pieces!

LPF Entertains: Summer Olympics Party

I'm admittedly geeking out over the Summer Olympics! There's just something so fun about watching your favorite events and rooting on your country's team! It's definitely a sense of American pride for me. I'm really looking forward to watching the gymnastics events + Lochte & Phelps duke it out in the swimming events.

I've gathered some ideas for hosting a little summer olympics watching party of your own! From DIY olive leaf crowns to Olympics bingo game to a meal inspired by Great Britain's favorite dish!

I also love the idea of a paper chain with different colored construction paper rings for decor! AND I'm dying to try out this Olympics Drinking Game with friends.

So, what events are you looking forward to most? & What team will you be rooting for?

Latest Lust: Word Art:

One of the things I've seen popping up all over interior decor sites are words & letters as art on the wall. The "Blog" letters via Fabulous K are on my "to-DIY" for my desk area, and of course I love the "LA" since my middle name is Anne-- yes, Lauren Anne! I love the look of a boldly colored "EAT" spelled out, or "holla" for those with a sense of humor.

I just love how personalized and witty your wall art can be. I saw an awesome DIY using those cardboard letters at Michaels with a metallic silver acrylic paint for a faux silver finish.

I'm thinking I probably need some "LPF" letters in my room next!

What would letters/words would you have as decor?

I'm so excited to share a style profile on one of my favorite fashion blogs, Chill Air & Perfume. Hannah has the most incredible knack for finding thrifted treasures, perfecting the art of the perfect top knot & shares snapshots of her town and foodie delights on her blog!

Check out her Q&A with LPF and a few of my favorite of her outfits below:

Pretty in Pink

I picked up this neon pink hi-low hem dress at H&M the other night on a whim. It's bright, summery, and breezy-- pretty much my only requirements when shopping for a summer dress. I can't tell you how many people stopped to compliment me in the hall at work! I think it's true, a bright dress can brighten a day.

I even tried to rock a topknot later in the day and my swell caroline bangles perfectly coordinated!

I've been spending every spare moment on LPF Mag and I absolutely can't wait for everyone to see it. It's coming along fabulously and I'm down to crunch time! (P.S. Rachel Amy, if you're reading, please ignore my horribly chipped nails! ;)

Do you own any bright colored summer dresses?

10 Tips for a Better Blog

I often get emails from other bloggers, a lot just starting out, about how to start up & maintain a blog. Trust me, I'm no expert- but I've been doing this for 5 years so I've definitely learned a few things along the way! It's amazing to see how far blogging, particularly fashion blogging has come since LPF got it's start!

I wanted to share a few of my blogging "secrets" to a better blog- though I'm constantly learning!

Some of my favorite blog resources are:

LPF Loves: Swell Caroline

I found this "Life is About Creating Yourself" bracelet at a Madison festival this weekend and knew I needed to add it to my bracelet rotation. I can't resist a little daily arm party inspiration! I paired it w/ a turquoise & wood bracelet my Dad bought me out West & Swell Caroline enamel turquoise bangle.

I wanted to share a few of my favorite picks from Swell Caroline! They have been sweet enough to loan some goodies for LPF Mag editorials, and I can't get over all the pretty baubles and how affordable they are. I'm also excited to share that I will be helping to edit their new blog!

all pieces avaiable at Swell Caroline

Ain't Life Grand?

As promised, here are some snapshots of my summer vacation up at my grandparent's lake in the northwoods, which we affectionately call the "Looney Bin" (because of the loons on the lake, not crazy family members folks ;)! It was the perfect little all-american week and 4th of July!

k's first Looney Bin experience // 4th of July fireworks // sampling the world famous bloody mary from the parade after-party // a waterski show we never miss // my beautiful sister, Allie // pontoon boats & patriotic pennants // a campfire & s'mores // cheese curds & spotted cow at the friday night fish fry // my cousin's sweet kiddies

It was oh-so-nice to have a little getaway and catch up with family! And even stranger that the state I used to visit every summer for the 4th of July is home to me now! Ain't life grand? That's what my gramma always used to say, and I couldn't agree more :)

Latest Lust: Dawson's Creek

I'm always looking for a new TV series to get sucked into on Netflix. So, when all the seasons of Dawson's Creek ended up on there, I knew what my newest guilty pleasure show would be. You see, I was too young to watch when it was actually on the air, so now I can enjoy it in all its cheesy glory.

The 90's style is prettyyyyy bad, check Ms. Katie Holmes as Joey rocking the overalls below, but I think there's a few gems I'd probably wear now, like Jen's grunge denim jackets and Joey's signature striped tanks.

If you have netflix and haven't watched it before, or want a good nineties throwback, I definitely recommend adding it to your queue!

I'm also loving these vintage J. Crew catalog snaps featuring the gang:

What were your favorite guilty pleasure tv shows growing up/now?

Endless Summer Style

It wouldn't be summer at La Petite Fashionista if I wasn't sharing my favorite surfer girl editorials of the season. My latest find is this Vogue Paris editorial, Surf's Up! I'm in love with the marled yarn sweaters, beachy surfer hair & acid washed cutoff shorts.

Here's my interpretation of the beachy, summer look!

This has me dying to DIY a pair of old shorts + buy a marled sweater for this chilly summer evening. If you're looking for a DIY beachy hair spray check out my tutorial post

Also, don't forget to check out my LPF mag koozie giveaway here!

America, the Beautiful

I am off to the northwoods to spend the 4th of July weekend with loved ones! I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone and all of our traditions like the small town 4th of July parade, followed by a big ol' slice of pie, and waterskiing on the lake.

These things all remind me of  being an American; the stars & stripes, summers on the lake, fireworks, those who proudly serve our country, and all the red. white & blue dishes we can dream up. Living in the Midwest now, I definitely have an appreciation for America's heartland.

For all my American readers, international & US-- what things remind you of the USA?

Just Call Her Miss America

I did a guest post on 4th of July Fashion over at my friend Sarah's at Events Uncorked! I love this combo of tomboy + glam in red, white, & blue. Try pairing a navy sequined tank with a baseball cap, or a red lace dress w/ navy and white striped flats!

Fabulous 4th of July Looks

I am so excited to start off my 4th of July festivities and spend some time with my family! I can promise I will be sporting an outfit much like this to our 4th of July Parade, likely with a piece of apple pie in hand.

I'm also dying to try out Free People's flag shorts DIY- there's a great tutorial here:

What are your plans for the 4th?
