How on earth do you take outfit pictures when the sun isn't up before you leave for work and sets before you get home? I've been trying to catch daily instagaram #ootd (outfit of the day) snapshots of my outfits. Definitely not as profesh looking as a DSLR with perfect lighting and photographer, but a nice little collection of my day to day looks.

As you can see my style is totally different from day to day. Basically not a day goes by that I'm not rocking some sort of print or statement piece from a sparkly sequin shirt, bold colored pants to wrist full of bracelets or chukny sweater. I like to keep it all grounded with denim jackets, chambray shirts, or rugged duck boots.

My friend, Laura @ Beauty & the Beard does it best, she's great at posting her super cute daily outfits!

Send me your instagram username so I can follow all your #OOTD's. mine is @lapetitefashionista!

Autumn Travels & Sisterly Love

I surprised my sister up at her new school in Massachusetts this past weekend  It was so exciting to travel incognito and show up at the steps of her dorm! I had so much fun catching up with my whole family and trading stories with my sisters of our moves across the country over maple almond milk lattes. I am so proud of her!
robert frost statue at amherst college // bold pants & sauv blanc // print at a farm to table restaurant // urban outfitters location housed inside an old bank // fall scenery // vintage glasses antiquing find // sisters reunited// beautiful lobby of our historic hotel

I took the opportunity to wear my striped sweater, jeans, navy peacoat, bubble necklace & leopard loafers. It felt perfectly preppy with a twist while we were touring the ivy league campuses.

The leaves still looked absolutely beautiful and we had fun grabbing coffee, trying out local restaurants, geeking out over all the historic sites, and doing some antiquing. Okay okay, a little bit of shopping was thrown in for good measure too.

Near or far, it's always so nice to catch up with mom, dad & little sis allie-- she even gave me a few of her "keep your balance" bracelets before I left.

Do any of my fellow readers live a long way from family? How do you stay close despite the distance?

Latest Lust: Nate Berkus for Target

Dear Target, why must you take so much of my paychecks? I was SO excited to see that they've partnered with one of my favorite interior designers for a new home decor collection. I love everything from the studded pillows, to ikat bath rugs & metallic bowls.

Any of these would all make the perfect statement decorative pieces in your home.

Try This Trend: Goth Glam

I'm looking forward to Halloween this year because it's the perfect time to breakout all the goth glam pieces that have been trending in the fashion world. These were some of my favorite pieces from star-crossed loving skull intarsia sweaters to spider rings & even a vampire fang bottle opener.

These pieces are perfect for Halloween, but the perfect amount of spooky that you could rock them year round as a statment piece.

try this trend: goth glam

I personally am loving the cool metallic skull (only $15!!) and color-of-the-moment oxblood red lipstick! I've also been on a Buffy the Vampire Slayer kick on netflix (nerd alert ;), Buffy kicks butt, and she would definitely rock those Jeffery Campbell claw boots! Spooky Chic!

The glam goth style has definitely become a fashion trend that's not just for Halloween anymore.

What's your favorite goth glam piece?

It's Hip to be Square

Block heels have been all over runways lately. Whether in a low kitten heel height or sky high platform, they evoke a great seventies feel. They can be a tricky trend to wear, I recommend them in true vintage style with a mini dress or mini skirt and a nude colored pair for leg lengthening abilities.

it's hip to be square

I don't know about you, but I'm totally digging the Tory Burch pair with a touch of metallic & leopard square heels to pair back to denim & an open knit sweater.

Have you tried this trend yet?

the Harvest Moon

In the spirit of Halloween right around the corner, I had to share Free People's new shoot, "the Harvest Moon". Seriously obsessing over these combos of marled knits, leather jackets, soft textures & mystic jewelry. It evokes all the perfect feelings of fall (& makes me want to go buy oxblood colored lipstick).

I've also created a harvest moon playlist full of songs that remind me of this time of year a little bit folksy & with haunting melodies and soulful lyrics.

What are you doing to celebrate fall?

Cocktails & Little Black Dresses!

Did you know October 19th is Little Black Dress Day? In honor of #LBDday I've featured a few of my favorite little black dresses, no matter what your style is from boho to body con, trendy to classic. My latest LBD favorite is a thrifted 90's sweetheart neckline & swooshy skater skirt LBD.  I totally feel like I'm channeling Kelly Taylor from 90210 every time I wear it!

LBD: 4 Ways to Wear it

Little Black Dress Vodka is sponsoring "flash catwalks" across the country and encouraging everyone to show off their LBD Style-- upload your LBD pictures to their facebook page for a chance to win a fun girl's night out!

One of my favorite bars in Tallahassee during college had a weekly LBD Night with free champagne, and my girlfriends and I always loved getting dressed up and having a girl's night out!

I also came up with a drink for your next girl's night out-- the fizzy fashionista!

I love to experiment making different cocktails and pineapple is one of my favorite flavors. This concoction is on the lighter side, using flavored coconut water instead of pineapple juice, sparkling water instead of soda, and fresh fruit muddled at the bottom. Try it for your next LBD night!

What's your favorite thing to do on a girls night out/in?

Try this Trend: Gingham for Fall

There's something about gingham that just feels so fall- in a red and white check it feels summery and reminiscent of picnic blankets and lazy afternoons- but in winter, when layered on with autumnal brights or chunky knits it feels just right too.

I scored this gingham button down at a thrift store a while back and i love pairing it with bold pants for fall!

I've come up with a few great ways to wear one of our favorite prints all season long. I love the idea of layering it with a sweater & boyfriend jeans, pairing a gingham skirt with a sequined sweater and a gingham top with coordinating cardigan and bold colored pants.

i love gingham

Ok, how amazing are those yellow pants?! I think I definitely need some to brighten up my fall wardrobe.

What's your favorite way to pair prints in the fall?

Latest Lust: Aran Sweaters

When it comes to fall fashion few things are more iconic and classic than a traditional aran sweater. These cableknit sweaters go by many names; "chunky cable knit", "fisherman sweaters". The truth is that a true Aran Sweater is made in the Aran Islands off of Ireland and were originally worn by fisherman, & usually a traditional cream color.

Although I'm no fisherman, I can totally rock one with a pair of skinny jeans and leather boots.

I loved what I read about what the different cables mean on the sweater; "The honeycomb is a symbol of the hard-working bee. The cable, an integral part of the fisherman's daily life, is said to be a wish for safety and good luck when fishing. The diamond is a wish of success, wealth and treasure. The basket stitch represents the fisherman's basket, a hope for a plentiful catch." (via wikipedia).

I certainly need to add one to my collection this fall!

LPF Cooks: Cheese Stuffed Burgers & Carmelized Onions

You know where you're having one of those days where you just want to go home and make comfort food for dinner? Well, yesterday was one of those days! I saw a recipe for these cheese stuffed burgers and added my own spin to them for dinner for my boyfriend and I. Not to mention that burgers on the George Foreman grill, carmelized onion topping and kettle cooked chip & dip remind me of summertime on a blustery fall day

This cheese stuffed burger was incredibly easy and boyfriend-approved. I  chose muenster cheese for the center because it's perfectly melty and delicious but you could choose any kind you like-- cheddar? brie? pepperjack? Just too many yummy combinations.

Cheese Stuffed Burgers & Carmelized Onions Recipe
1. I chose a lean ground chuck beef and seasoned it in a mixing bowl with an assortment of chopped fresh garlic, seasoning, salt & pepper
2. Mold the beef into thin patties and chop up the cheese into small pieces and layer on top. Then place another equal size patty on top to enclose the cheese, making sure to seal around the edges (don't want any cheese to melt out!)
3. Chop up onions & carmelize on the stovetop with a bit of butter (you can do this while burgers are cooking).
4. Cook burger patties on grill or stovetop until well done. I also threw my burger buns into the stove under the broiler for a minute to get them nice and toasty.

These were delicious. Make some for dinner tonight!

Stylish Not Spooky Halloween Costumes

Okay, maybe it's barely October but I'm one of those people that loves all things Halloween. Really, it's any excuse to get all dressed up and eat too much candy corn. I've never been much of a "sexy costume" kind of girl, it's just not me, especially now that I'm not in college anymore.

That's why I've rounded up some of my favorite picks for stylish not spooky Halloween costumes!

Stylish not Spooky Halloween Costumes

I like to go for famous glamour girl celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Holly Golightly or Jackie O. Other favorite costumes include fashion through the decades like poodle skirts from the fifties, fringed flappers from the 1920's, disco divas, or the iconic Ginger spice.

What's your favorite Halloween Costume you've ever had?

Sparkle Knits & Colored Cords

I couldn't resist picking up this shirt at Forever 21 a few weeks ago. I love the raglan baseball style with sparkly knit sleeves & sheer chiffon body. Can't forget the colored cords, statement earrings, and chevron way-too-high heels!  I like wearing a little bit of sparkle on any average day!

These cords were such a steal at $20, I think I need to go back and buy a few more pairs! As much as  I love a good designer investment piece, I'm all about trying out trends affordably!
