Try this Trend: Hi - Low Hem Dresses

One of  my favorite trends I've seen for Spring is the hi-low hem dress. It's a perfect day to night dress, and slipping it on just makes you want to take a little twirl. I absolutely love the color and styling of these which all look like they have an airy lightweight chiffon construction.

I've done so much closet cleaning lately, that I feel like I may want to a bit of shopping this weekend to refill it with some summer staples (and knock on wood, will have a walk in closet in our new apartment, eeek!)

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Maxi Dresses for Petite Fashionistas

I've always sort of sworn off maxi dresses for petite girls, especially petite curvy girls like myself! But, I saw this striped maxi on a thrifting venture and knew that for a couple of dollars. I couldn't resist test driving the trend! I think a pair of extra high heels are essential to pulling off the look & a little dose of extra confidence doesn't hurt either. I think I'm more of a minidress kind of girl, but i'm always in favor of having fun with fashion trends!

My favorite way to wear a maxi dress is with a waist cinching belt and a cropped denim jacket.  Here is how to get the look:

Would you wear a maxi dress, especially you petite fashionistas like yourself?

Spring Snapshots

Springtime in the Midwest is wonderful when instead of melting snow I have tulips & peonies growing in my front yard. The uncharacteristically warm March has already let me break out my vintage levi shorts & sundresses. I also felt the urge to add some color to my bedroom & updated it with new coral sheets & printed pillows.

// wearing a Canvas shirt, vintage Levi's picked up while studying abroad// My cowboy boot collection has replaced coats// picked up my favorite Capri Blue candle from Anthro in a new scent// an outfit in my closet for Spring//

I also have been apartment hunting for a new apartment with a girlfriend. Fingers crossed, we found a place we're in love with! Summer in the "big" city, of Madison; can't wait!

Aqua & Arm Candy

Sometimes all it takes is a snapshot to inspire a look. I was instantly drawn to this image with its mint sweater, fuchsia cross body bag, and piled on bracelets. This look is full of spring color, and delightfully uncomplicated. The ettika bracelets really make the look!

Aqua & Arm Candy

I'm also all about the white pants for spring. White skinny jeans can be intimidating, but I have a pair of white cuffed chinos that are much more wearable!

What's your favorite shade for Spring?

LPF's Guide to: DIY Herb Gardens

In becoming a "Domestic Goddess in-training", I've been cooking and experimenting with new recipes quite a bit. It seems like I'm constantly buying fresh herbs from the grocery store. My boyfriend's mom has a garden where she gets a ton of herbs and fruits and veggies farm to table. I love the idea of being able to do that even in a small or urban space with these DIY herb gardens (some even fit on a kitchen counter!).

And, if you need some cooking inspiration try some of these recipes using garden fresh herbs! I can't wait to get started on my little herb garden.

LPF Guide to : Cooking with Fresh Herbs

Why don't you... use cilantro in pico de gallo with tortilla chips, rosemary in a summery lemonade, dill in a Greek chicken souvlaki wrap, or basil in Pioneer Woman's lemon basil chicken pasta (i've made it; it's delicious!)

Do you have a small garden or keep fresh herbs in your kitchen?

Try this Trend: Sherbet Shades

I am so drawn to this editorial from Grazia Germany's March issue. I love the new take on pastels, more of a sherbet shade, perfectly style for spring with lightweight sweaters, oxford shirts, watercolor florals and statement necklaces.

Interior Decor Love: Chandelier Surf Shack

As promised, today's post features one of the coolest surf shacks I've ever seen. The Chandelier Surf Shack is a cozy, chic Montauk getaway for the employees of Chandelier Creative. I absolutely love the vintage surf look, the aztec & ikat prints definitely give it a lived in feel and I love the personal touches like the monogrammed pillows and backyard movie theater and guest tepees.

As much as I love the clean, polished Hollywood Regent decorating style, there is a part of me that would feel equally at home in a colorful laidback beach house filled with vintage treasures.

Where would your dream beach house be? (Mine would be on Oahu's North Shore!)

Latest Lust: Surfer Girl Style

I'm admittedly way excited about all of the surfer girl-eqsue neoprene suits, and Hawaiian print popping up on the runways. Although I don't get to go surfing nearly enough, I feel complete happiness when I'm in the water. I love everything about the surfer girl and Hawaiian lifestyle, it's colorful laidback and fun. I even have a tattoo with the Hawaiian words, "Pa'a Kou Mo'okaulike", meaning keep your balance.

These are some of the images inspiring me lately, and making me anxious to take a getaway to a quiet little surf break:

In middle school and high school growing up in FL, the majority of my wardrobe consisted of wardrobes and puka shell necklaces. Although my style has matured, I will always have a soft spot for a tie-dye beach cover up, a pair of rainbow sandals, Surfer Girl magazine, and saltwater soaked wavy hair.

Sticking with the theme for my next post, come back to see one of the most stylish surf "shacks" you've ever laid eyes on for some home decor inspiration.

Latest Lust: Pretty Party Decorations

Today's my 23rd birthday and I've been overwhelmed with sweet gestures and messages from friends and family from messages and cards to decorated cubicles and Lilly Pulitzer coozies. Needless to say, I am one lucky girl!

In celebration of my birthday, today's post is on pretty party decorations. I'm in love with all of the colorful and girly party decorations and paper goods from Sweet Lulu. I will definitely have to stock up for the next time I entertain!

As you can also see, La Petite Fashionista has also gotten a pretty little blog makeover from Christine at Great Oak Circle! We're still tweaking a couple of things but I'm loving the new design and color scheme!

Interior Design Trends: Abstract Art

One of the interior design trends I've noticed lately are large abstract art on canvas in modern rooms, definitely a Kelly Wearstler trademark! I think it's a timeless look for any interior decor style, and I love the paintings that perfectly tie together all the colors in the room.

These are some of my favorite examples of statement making abstract wall art:

It's next on my project to DIY on a blank canvas with acrylic paints! I love that it doesn't require painting within the lines!

Happy 5th Birthday LPF!

La Petite Fashionista is turning FIVE! I can hardly believe it. I started my blog way back when as a high school senior as a hobby. I never knew it would become such a big part of who I am! It's been the perfect creative outlet for me to share my love of fashion and interior design and dreams of working in the industry.

Since I've first started blogging, social media has become such a huge influence, it makes me proud that I've been one of the ones to help shape it. In celebration of LPF's birthday, I asked a few of my favorite bloggers what their favorite gift ideas were; I think you'll love their stylish suggestions!

If you haven't checked out their blogs please do. They are all incredibly inspiring ladies, many of who I have had the luck of knowing in person! Thanks Lindsay, Sarah, Kelly, Lauren, Hannah, Laura & Alicia!

I also, made some of these funfetti cake batter cookies last night, which I have to say might be the tastiest/prettiest cookies I've ever had (especially piping hot out of the oven). Thank you for the recipe Carlee!

My 23rd birthday is this Wednesday, so I'm hoping to do some celebrating this weekend. It makes me miss all my friends and family back home, love you guys! And thank you to all of my amazing blog readers, you're the best!!

Lately, I've been on a major DIY kick, especially when it comes to affordable home decor projects! I love the idea of filling your home with things you've made your own.

I wanted to share some of my favorite DIY's on the blogosphere that I'm anxious to do whenever I get a free moment to be crafty!

Vogue Paris' Spring Sweaters + Swedish Hasbeens

This Vogue Paris editorial, En Canale, is the perfect nod to the 90's. With the shoot's lightweight and ribbed sweaters,  swedish hasbeen sandals, colored denim, delicate hoop earrings & light wash denim it is sophisticated bohemian perfection. The whole editorial, is exactly what I'm wanting to wear at the moment.

If you want to get this effortless but feminine look yourself; here are some of the key pieces:

I'm loving it all, especially the swedish hasbeen sandals. There's something that's just so right about them paired with a sundress!

Latest Lust: Beautiful Bikinis

Okay, so maybe there's still snow on the ground, but that doesn't stop me from trying to find the perfect swimsuit for when it's finally warm enough. There's something about super feminine bandeau styles that has been catching my eyes. I love the classic ruffles, seersuckers, ginghams, polka dots, florals, and bows.

You can wear them paired as a matching set for a classic, super girly look.

This is the editorial shot that has sparked my love of girly bikinis; so inspiring!

I personally prefer a new spin on the classics by mixing and matching.

You can find links to all the bathing suits from anthropologie, J. Crew, Zimmerman, and H&M by clicking on the images!

Are you a fan of classic pairings or do you like to mix it up?
