Major Hair Envy

You see everyone, I'm in a bit of a hair rut. I am scarily low maintenance when it comes to my hair, preferring an air dry over a blowdry blowout and messy waves over pin straight. I'm so in need of a good hair cut & re-color. Somehow mine has become the ombre look I've known and loved, but not in a good way.

I've been pulling some inspiration for my next trip to the hairdresser (hopefully SOON!).

In Florida my surfer girl boho waves were my go-to look, but in Wisconsin there's not the same humidity and it just doesn't look as cute. These are more polished versions of my everyday look. I think I'd like to go a bit darker for fall/winter and hair cut in long layers.. and should reunite myself with my trust curling iron.

You know those people that always have the most amazing hair & they've never even dyed it? My bestie, Kelly, at Hello Boudreau is one of those people- since we were kids she has had the most beautiful thick, blond locks!

What's your go-to hair style & cut and have you ever been able to break the mold?

Thank God it's Gameday!

Thursday marks the start of my favorite time of year.. football season! It's funny, I never cared about sports at all growing up (I was more into the arts; dance, theater, & design). So,  when I ended up at a hardcore southern football school (Florida State!), it surprised me as much as everyone else that I would turn into such a football fan!

I will never forget the four years of Saturdays spent watching the Noles play & tailgating and I can't wait to enjoy them for years to come as an alumni!

Photobucket

I also assumed that like FSU, colleges across the U.S. "dressed up" for games. After moving above the Mason-Dixon line, I learned this is a southern football tradition- and I wouldn't have had it any other way! I love getting dressed up in my team's colors and even wore a different pair from my cowboy boot collection to each game as a senior in college.

I so wish Twelve Saturdays was around when I was in college to buy my dresses at! They were sweet enough to loan us some of their oh-so-cute gameday dresses for our LPF Mag photo shoot!

Sarah, at Events Uncorked designed this gorgeous & easily do-able tailgate event-- which you can see more of in the first issue of La Petite Fashionista Magazine as well as some gameday fashion features! Best of all, it can be interpreted for any team!

Also featured in the new issue are some delicious tailgating recipes from Saucy Jocey's Kitchen- just click on the pictures to take you to the recipes.

Better yet,  here is a printable copy for your LPF Mag Gameday Guide!

Be sure to check out the LPF Mag pinterest page for more yummy recipes & entertaining ideas!

So, what's your team of choice during football season, either college or professional & your favorite game day tradition?

Summer Slipping Away

I can hardly believe summer is ALMOST over. I have tried to cherish every last warm summer night. I wore this outfit over the weekend for a double date with Laura and her boyfriend. We bonded over our love of wine & statement necklaces and dominated the boys in a game of scrabble. I wore my Swell Caroline necklace and love the transformative powers it has on a casual summery outfit.

It's funny, tribal print is one of those trends I just don't see disappearing anytime soon. Whether it's more ethnic inspired or geometric, there are so many updates in different colors & patterns to keep it looking fresh.

These are some of the fall tribal prints I'm loving right now-- printed pants, "navajo" sweaters, & bold bags and statement necklaces.

get the look: navajo sweater by spool 72 // statement necklace by kate spade // blouse by quiksilver women // tribal denim mac clutch by rebecca minkoff

I went on a bit of a fall shopping spree last weekend and it's making the idea of slipping into layers and drinking hot apple cider a tad bit more bearable... as does football season, but that's another post!

What are you going to miss most about Summer?

LPF Bakes: Maple Bacon Beer Cupcakes

My carpool group has a solid hour and half commute together to work & back every day. We're already on our way to work before 8, and let's just say before we have our coffee we get a little goofy. One day we talked about how we should have a bacon themed party. Well, a couple weeks later we all got an invite to the "i heart bacon" party, and I had to think up the perfect dessert to contribute.

So I bring you, the maple, bacon, beer, cupcake!
These cupcakes turned out delicious! I adapted the recipe to one I'd seen online. Many recipes put bacon in the cupcake batter, but I thought I'd make this one a little tamer so those new to eating bacon as a dessert wouldn't shy away. There isn't actually maple syrup but the brown sugar gives it the perfect maple taste.

The beer cut the sweetness of the cupcake & with the crispy, candied bacon.. this might just be the best cupcake you've ever tasted. I think these would be perfect for bringing as a quirky dessert, to make for a boyfriend or hubby or give to your pops for father's day!

Roadtrip Americana

My sister's incredibly talented friend Emma shot the Stand Up Paddleboarding & Make-up/Hair looks for La Petite Fashionista Magazine! I just had to share her amazing photography she captured on a roadtrip through the American South this summer with her friend.

These pictures perfectly capture the road trip & seriously makes me want to hop in the car and drive out west, no GPS necessary! I had so much trouble even picking my favorites.

Fall Fashion Faves

It seems so strange to be writing about fall fashion coming off of a huge heat wave in the midwest, but strangely it's already cooled off and if I was still in college I'd be going back to school shopping (ah, i miss those days!). Check out some of my favorite pieces of fall fashion in today's post!

get the look: bib necklace from forever 21, neon pink journal from anthropologie, parisienne storytelle scarf from madewell //pink lipstick from too faced //  colorful true slim chinos from lands' end canvas // leopard sweater from lulus.com // tan ankle boots from calvin klein via piperlime

I love the idea of spicing up a basic sweater with a bib necklace, taking notes in an eye catching journal & rocking a pair of statement making colorful pants this fall.

All of you going back to school shopping or revamping your fall wardrobe-- what are you adding?

Latest Lust: Pretty Paper Goods

Wow has it been a whirlwind of a week!! La Petite Fashionista mag launched this week and I've received a an outpouring of support from readers & friends alike. It so makes all the hours spent working on it worth it! We are already busy dreaming up content for the next issue!

The lovely Laura of Beauty & the Beard inspired my latest post with a Kate Spade stationery thank you note she left for me on my desk this week! A gesture as simple as a handwritten note speaks volumes these days in a tech obsessed world! I love the idea of taking a time to write letters to old college friends & supportive parents.

This post features some of my favorite independent paperies & letterpress shops with an idea of what kind of friend to send it to!

Some more exciting news is that the LPF Mag is up to 1800 readers & 28,000 unique page views which seriously blows my mind! I'm overwhelmed by all the nice comments and emails!

If you'd like to support the magazine I would be incredibly happy if you help spread the word by pinning your favorite images & articles from the mag on our pinterest page

Happy Weekend!!

Working for the Weekend on LPF Mag!

Work Weekend Essentials
La Petite Fashionista magazine is so close to being done & I can hardly wait to release it! So many hours of hard work & collaboration have been put into this issue and I'm so proud of the end result. Needless to say I'll be spending the weekend on my laptop with the design programs I've come to know all to well & some of my favorite magazines in tow when lacking inspiration.
Does anyone else feel extra inspired when they're wearing a cute outfit? I feel like it's easier to write about fashion when I'm wearing something fashionable! Lots of coffee helps keep the creative juices  flowing too!

Have a great weekend :)

August Inspiration Board

I can't believe it's already August! Although I definitely miss the fun of back to school shopping & indulging in new school supplies, for me it's become the last chance to wear my summer dresses and tank tops. There are so many things inspiring me this month, as seen by my colorful inspiration board!

I am literally loving everything above. The funfetti dip is perfect for end of summer shin digs, Jamie Meare's home tour is making me want to redecorate, and Brahmin's chevron clutch is perfect for my big girl job- storing credit cards, id, keys & lipstick!

Speaking of big girl jobs, the lovely Laura of Beauty & the Beard started at my workplace this week so everyone make sure to go congratulate her on the sweet new job!

Fling Before the Ring: Bachelorette Party Inspiration

One of my dear friends is getting married in one short month. So this weekend we will be celebrating her "fling before the ring" at a lakeside condo bachelorette weekend full of boating, dressing up cute & bachelorette dares with our favorite bride-to-be.

I'm so excited to be at an age where my friends are starting to get married. It's so fun helping them plan, DIY & celebrate for the big day! I've compiled some of the cutest bachelorette party decor ideas I've seen for any of you lovelies that are getting hitched or celebrating with a friend!

Seriously how sweet are these ideas?! We are so excited for the weekend. We're also looking forward to playing "how well do you know the groom" & bachelorette scavenger hunt. Any fun games/activities you've done at bachelorette parties?

Acid Wash & Lace

Today's outfit paired a thrifted acid wash vest with a cream lace dress & gold statement necklace. I scored this 90's denim vest at a thrift store years back & it's still one of my favorite pieces in the closet to pair over sundresses. The necklace from Swell Caroline, is a self-explanatory show stopper!

Hope you guys are enjoying the rest of summer! I've been glued to the tv watching the olympics & wrapping up  LPF Mag & have a friend's bachelorette party this weekend!

xoxo, lauren
