Try this Trend: Faux Fur

One of the trends I've been spotting lately is faux fur- whether its a trim on a coat, infinity scarf form, or even a pop color earmuff. Now that I'm living in the frozen north, I like it for the warmth factor as well! I am especially loving how fresh the colorful faux fur is!

I've picked out a few key pieces for you to try out the trend yourself!

Try this Trend: Faux Fur

I had the chance to try out a pair of Hugrz boot wraps and they are my new favorite way to get more wear out of my boots this winter. Pair w/ a pair of high heeled or cushioned boots for a chic aspen snow bunny look!

I also have pulled together some of my favorite examples from the blogosphere of the faux fur trend for a little bit of inspiration on how to wear it! They can pull off the heavy faux fur coat and still make it look feminine and stylish.

Would you try out the faux fur trend? If it's a little intimidating for you try it in small doses w/ a cozy pair of earmuffs or fur trimmed cardigan first! Personally, I'm on the hunt for a huge faux fur coat to keep me warm when we hit negative temperatures!

DIY Engagement Gift: Chalkboard Wine Glasses

When my best friend, Jocelyn facetimed me last weekend with her long-time boyfriend at her side I just knew that he had popped the question! We have been besties since elementary school and grew up looking at bridal magazines and gossiping about boys so I couldn't be more excited for her engagement!

I wanted to DIY her and her fiancee a gift to help celebrate, even though I'm hundreds of miles away. So, I made a pair of chalkboard stem wine glasses and a couple of mini-bottles of celebratory wine!

I love the idea of being able to change up what's written on the wine glasses, from pet names to wedding dates. It's such a simple & fun DIY, perfect for engagement gifts, wedding gifts, or birthdays! Pick out a couple of mini bottles or champagne to accompany the gift (i found a ton at World Market!).

I also have to share this adorable shot from her engagement!

Her future hubby hired a photographer to capture the moment (brownie points Paul!). Everyone be sure to congratulate Jocelyn on her engagement and visit her cooking blog, Saucy Jocey's Kitchen!

Working out in Style

After a weekend of spending time with family and eating delicious food and drinks non-stop, let's just say I'm ready for some detox. With my trip home to Florida in less than a month, I need to kick up fitness + nutrition for the holidays.

When it comes to workouts, I feel much more productive when I'm wearing cute workout clothes. I think any fellow FSU girls can probably relate, after spending a few semesters at our campus gym full of beautiful people! I have a groupon for a local yoga studio I'm excited to try out.

get the look: working out in style

get the look:  new balance running shoe // lululemon groove pant // blue sports bra// mint sports bra// tie dye hair ties // tie-dye yoga mat carrier // chevron stripe yoga mat//  purple nike running shorts// lime nike running shorts // camelbak water bottle // keep calm dance on bottle // vitamix blender// mint nike running shoes //  luna bar // hand weights //

I love my luna bars to start the day, but I'd love to splurge on a vitamix for daily smoothies. I'm also loving brightly colored running shoes and reusable water bottles. I've also heard nothing but good things about the lululemon pants (anyone know how these would be on a petite girl?)

I personally like classes to keep me motivated, but I also love Karena + Katrina -the girls from Tone It Up- and the fitness routines and inspiration they provide. I also think the key to a great workout is a good playlist.  The 8tracks + Songza apps are pretty much on constant rotation on my iphone.

How do you stay motivated to keep up fitness and nutrition routines?

Style Profile: Marguerite of "Such Good Style"

Hi Everyone!  For today's Style Profile, the lovely Marguerite has shared a few of her favorite outfits & answered a few of our pressing style questions & Marguerite's must haves! I'm so excited to share this colorful Lilly Pulitzer employee's unique style, between her new take on the classics, playful use of prints & signature accessorizing, i know you'll love it too!

Meet the Blogger: Marguerite of Such Good Style

Career: I work on the Marketing team at Lilly Pulitzer and I help with the E-Commerce and catalog photo shoots.

Location: Philadelphia

How do you describe your personal style? I'd classify myself as a mixture of Classic Style and High Fashion. Classic style is chic, simple and elegant while High Fashion clothing requires self-knowledge, nerve, and creative spirit. I love pairing them together in a personal and original way.

Favorite places to shop? I love shopping at small boutiques with a bunch of different designer brands. I also love a good find at TJ Maxx Off the Runway.

Favorite current fashion trend? My favorite Fall trend right now is the baroque trend! Brocade opulent patterns and textures are perfect for dressing up, but looks chic and unexpected on more casual pieces.

What's topping your wish list this year? I'm DYING for a Celine bag!

Tip for looking stylish in the winter? Layering! Get creative by layering everything from tops to bracelets! One tip for layering in the winter is to pile on thinner layers, so you don't feel bulky. Also, try mixing abstract prints into your layers to add to the neutrals in your winter wardrobe!

Favorite piece in your closet? My grandmother's vintage alligator bag.

Favorite designer? An absolute classic...Chanel.

tartan ruffles & classic quilted Chanel bag

bold pink print paired w/ aqua belt

beautifully embroidered sleeves

mixing prints; stripes w/ florals & arm full of bracelets

a pop  of color in coral heels

classic black

lobster intarsia & eyelet shorts; preppy with a twist

Thank you SO much for sharing your personal style w/ us Marguerite! Everyone make sure to check out her blog, "Such Good Style". If you want to know more of what it's like working for Lilly- check out our interview with Print Designer, Caroline Boyk in the latest issue of La Petite Fashionista Mag!

How to: Wear a Peplum Top

Until recently I had kind of sworn off peplum blouses as one of those trends I'd never be able to wear. It seemed impossible that a petite, curvy girl could rock a flouncy tank top. Lo and behold I tried one at Urban Outfitters the other weekend and was mesmerized by it's flattering powers and ended up adding one to my wardrobe.

It's a surprisingly versatile style no matter what your body shape- keeping curves in check yet also giving the illusion of them for those lacking them. Win-Win!

If you're worried a peplum top won't look cute on you, I have a few no-fail tips for making it look cute on everyone. I love how trendy they look when paired with a skirt, but paired with dark denim it becomes an easy go-to look to try out this trend!

Have you tried out the peplum trend yet- how do you wear yours?

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party

Okay, so in case you didn't realize what a huge closet nerd I am, you're about to realize by the end of this post. My friends and I love having theme dinners & parties a couple of times a month. Like a lot of people I know I grew up reading Harry Potter books & watching the movies. We all grew up with Harry, Ron & Hermione.

So, my roommate and I decided our next get together should be harry potter themed, and somehow we found enough closet nerd friends to participate. My roommate is to credit for most of the fabulous decor! It ended up being such a fun night & I wanted to share a few pictures from the party.

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party- Platform 9 3/4 sign

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party- Three Broomsticks Bar setup

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party- Ollivander's Pretzel Wands

harry potter party floating candles

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party- golden snitch truffles

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party -Acid Pops & Screaming Mandrake Cupcakes

LPF Entertains: Harry Potter Party- Honeyduke's Sweet Shop

We had a 9 3/4 sign outside the apartment, floating "candles" taped to the ceiling like in the great hall & a grand buffet of food everyone contributed a dish or drink to the party.

the menu:
cho-chang's cheddar cheese ball
screaming mandrake cupcakes
felix felicis spinach dip
pumpkin pasties
hagrid's rock toffee
honeyduke's sweet shop candy
acid pops
malfoy's mini shooters
weasley family recipe taco dip
ollivander pretzel wands

We had a table we called the "Three Broomsticks" (no underage wizards allowed ;) & had a potions making contest with a couple of seasonal alcohols (pumpkin pie liqueur & apple bourbon). Everyone had to create a concoction of their own using one of the ingredients. We had some Oktoberfest beers, hard cider & of course butterbeer!

setting the mood:
harr potter movies on in the background
potions with labels out of household ingredients
light some candles for a spooky feel
break your halloween decorations out of storage
we had some witch hats & construction paper ties for everyone to get in the spirit

Now that my nerd status is no more a closet thing, feel free to check out our pinterest board for more fun ideas for a harry potter party of your own. Any other harry potter fans out there?

xoxo, lauren
