Inspired by: Labor Day Style

I can't even tell you how excited I am for this 3 day weekend! I just want to spend the whole time outside soaking up the sun, grilling out, (and watching college football of course.. GO NOLES)! Every time I go to grab a pair of pants out of the closet I keep thinking about how much I'll miss wearing sundresses a couple months from now and change my mind.

Needless to say, this girl will be rocking sundresses + strappy heels as long as humanly possible this year. Take some time for yourself this weekend whether it's catching up on the new September issues in your lawn chair + celebrating happy hour a little early or firing up the grill!

Farmers Market Flowers

The Saturday morning farmer's market in Madison is quite a sight to see! Vendors with local fresh produce, baked sweets & flowers galore line all four sides of the square next to the capital. I love to use it as an opportunity to pick up some fresh flowers for the house.

I could hardly believe when I saw women hand picking each flower to create the most colorful & giant bouquets (for only $6!). I had to pick up some flowers for the hobnail milk glass vase I picked up antiquing last month (loving the old meets new design trend!)

I snapped these pictures of the flowers + my outfit with my Nokia Lumia 928! OBSESSED with how the vibrant the colors are. I honestly didn't think a camera could do it justice. I've been trying to capture all of these colorful moments of what's left of summer in the Midwest.

What's your favorite type of flower? I am partial to peonies!

Wisconsin Blogger Brunch

As a lot of you probably know I launched the Midwest Style Bloggers group about six months ago as a way to connect fellow bloggers living in the Midwest! It's been a fabulous response and we've built up over a hundred members! I gathered a few Wisconsin bloggers together for brunch at one of my local favorites,
La Brioche! It was a great afternoon of meeting some new lovely ladies, fun freebies + delicious brunch!

I wanted to share a few of my favorite pictures from our midwest blogger brunch!

I made handy social media guides with everyone's instagram handle + hashtag for the brunch so we could find pictures later- totally recommend for any of your social get togethers!

My freshman year living in the dorm had to be one of my most fun in memory- my first time living on my own, decorating my dorm with my roomie Brooke & late nights staying up watching movies from our lofted bed and tiny TV. I wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Blogger Buzz: What's In Your Bag

Woohoo! My favorite Blogger Buzz Series is back & today we're showing some of the fun things each of us carry around in our handbags- too much fun.You know what they say- you can tell a lot about a person by what they have in their purse and the stories behind their contents!

Spill Your Bag

What's In Your Bag: La Petite Fashionista

1. // Lauren Felix of La Petite Fashionista

La Petite Fashionista Koozie: You never know when the occasion might arise during football season—I always like to have a koozie on hand (& hand some out to friends to show the LPF love)!

Samsung Galaxy Camera: This lovely little piece of technology is one of my favorite parts of being a Verizon Voices Style blogger! It's a social media lover's dream; perfect for uploading pictures on-the-go.

Naked Eyeshadow Palette: This is my go-to eyeshadow palette in a convenient purse-sized compact. I like being able to wear super neutral eye looks because my colorful clothing usually takes center stage.

What's In Your Bag: One Fine Day

2. // Ashley Fine of One Fine Day

USPS Notification Slip: At any given time, you will find one of these peach paper slips in my bag. I'm a big fan of online shopping; it's just SO convenient and fun. However, we have a super steep driveway and our courier can't get his vehicle up to the house. Wompwomp! Needless to say, I visit the Post Office regularly to pick up my recently purchased loot! I toss the notification slip in my purse as a reminder that I have a 'piece of happy' waiting for me at the Post Office.

Backup Battery for iPhone: I'm on my phone probably too much, so it's imperative that I have this on me just in case I run out of juice. I should also note that I'm a sucker for anything with polka-dots, and it never hurts to have something cute AND functional in your bag.

'List Makers Gonna List' Notepad: In true Type-A fashion, I'm the queen of making lists. My sister sent me this adorable notepad from Sapling Press and it couldn't be more true.

What's in Your Bag:Downtown Daydreams

3. // Meghan Anderson of Downtown Daydreams

Kate Spade Pocket Phone Case: I am constantly switching bags, clutches, totes — so sometimes I wind up pulling out cards from my wallet and tossing them into my bag loosely.  This case is just brilliant. It holds my ATM card, subway pass, and my work ID perfectly—that way I am not fishing around for the cards at the bottom of my bag!

Clinique's Chubby Stick: The saying 'mother knows best' holds especially true with my first pick. My mom introduced me to these fabulous lip balms. They achieve the look of lipstick, without the consistency. The 05 Plushest Punch is a top contender for my favorite.

Back-Up Jewelry and Makeup: My girlfriends all make fun of me and say that I am Mary Poppins because I always have multiple pieces of back up jewelry (and makeup) in my bag. You never know where the night is going to take you! I bought this Baublebar piece recently at their SOHO PopUp shop [ended 8/14] in NYC and love that you can wear it with everything from white t-shirts to cocktail dresses.

What's in Your Bag: Duchess of Plumewood

4. // Katherine Nolden of The Duchess of Plumewood

Business Cards: I had some made for myself in law school, and I've been handing them out like candy! It's not what you know, it's WHO you know!

Red Cross CPR Kit: Now that I'm certified, I carry it around with me  just in case I have to save someone's life.

Dog Treats: I always carry some for Winston just in case he needs a little encouragement to do something, or if he's being a really good boy!

What's In Your Bag: Beauty and Beard

5. // Laura Podlich of Beauty and the Beard

The Bow: At all times I either have greeting cards or ribbon/bows in my purse because I'm always afraid I'll forgetsomeone's birthday or special event! It sounds crazy, but there have been multiple times I've slapped a bow on a last minute gift—it makes it look like it wasn't last minute!

The Ginger Ale: I am totally 25 going on 85 because Ginger Ale is my favorite drink. A can of the fizzy stuff is a constant in my bag!

The Ninja Figure: Okay, now I look 25 going on 5. I can explain! My dad sends me silly little gifts he gets out of 25-cent machines (he has since my sister and I were little) so I usually have one kicking around my bag. I'm sure when I go through airport security the TSA must think I am insane for those figurines, but whenever I come across one of them I think of my goofy dad and smile!

A special thanks to the lovely Ashley of One Fine A for designing today's post. She is incredibly talented and her blog is an absolute colorful and fun feast for the eyes!

What unique things do you keep in your purse?

One Piece // 4 Ways: Little White Dress

The Little White Dress is an absolute summer staple. I love it paired back to  colorful brights & my big monogrammed sun hat. I was so excited when the oh-so-cute Red Dress Boutique  sent the four of us Midwest Style Bloggers a dress to wear in our outfit posts to style in our own unique way.

I am obsessed with their store; full of super affordable + stylish pieces (& some glam gameday looks)! I think this piece is a true testament to how each person can have their own spin on fashion and make a piece their own- whether paired with colorful accessories, a denim jacket, sneakers, or killer heels!

I picked up this monogrammed sun hat for our vacation to Florida & love how perfectly southern I feel rocking it. I took some of these outfit shots with my Nokia Lumia 927 while Kyle & I were having our stawberry basil fizz cocktails in the backyard!

It was a fantastic weekend- I can't wait to post some pictures from our Wisconsin blogger brunch- if you're not already be sure to follow Midwest Style Bloggers on instagram!

How do you like to style your little white dresses?

Let's Get Organized: Pretty Planners

Whether you're headed back to school or like me- just trying to get your life in order.. when all of your life seems to be ruled by technology the idea of just getting your thoughts on pen and paper seems like a truly novel concepts.

There seems to be more stylish planner & agenda options than ever before, with more features than ever to get you organized- whether you just want the days of the week or workout schedules & shopping lists.

I've pulled together some of my matter what your organizational needs are!

Let's Get Organized: Pretty Planners

I find that daily to-do lists seem to keep me on track better than anything. I've also been listening to some interesting podcasts. They recommend if you run your own business to create your hours around your best times for performance (i.e. if you're a morning person- start your day early & get stuff done; take mental breaks throughout the day, etc.)

What are your favorite ways to stay organized?

Easy Meals for Busy Girls: Menu Planning

In an effort to be more organized (& diligent with my grocery shopping) I decided to plan out some of our meals for the week. I tried to use up some of the produce & ingredients we already in the house, stick to a budget, AND  maintain a somewhat healthy menu. I can't stress enough how much easier menu planning is when life is chaotic and you're trying to find the balance!

I was pleasantly surprised to find the Menu Planning App - the perfect balance of techy + domestic goddess all wrapped into one beautiful little shopping list. It lets you add recipes + create a virtual shopping list that you can seamlessly send to your phone (allowing you to cross off items you already have).

I couldn't resist making our menu into a cute little graphic. So far it's made me more determined to stick to what we've planned for meals! You could easily create one of your own on picmonkey!

Stylish Menu Planning for Busy Domestic Goddesses-In-Training!

In case you're curious what I'm eating this week for dinner:

I wanted to leave Saturday open because that tends to be our date night!

Do you try to plan out your meals for the week?
If so, do you use any fun apps or have tips for saving money on groceries? My next feat will be learning how to coupon!

I just saw that you can "favorite" me as a chef! So follow me for my weekly meal plans!

LPF Entertains: Strawberry Basil Fizz Cocktail

I love a handcrafted cocktail (Kyle is so meticulous and creative that he's usually my bartender). We love coming up with new combinations using ingredients we have in the house and muddling them together to create unique flavors.

Tonight I made what I like to call a Strawberry Basil Fizz, using our new basil plant. I am a sucker for herbs in cocktails- it just makes them feel extra refreshing!

LPF Entertains: Strawberry Basil Fizz Cocktail

Strawberry Basil Fizz Cocktail
  • 4 strawberries sliced in half
  • 1 Lime
  • 4 Basil leaves
  • 1.5 oz of Club Soda
  • 1.5 oz (1 shot) of Vodka
  • 1 tbsp Simple Syrup
Muddle the strawberries & basil, squeeze in the juice of one lime, simple syrup & pour vodka into a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into highball glass over ice, add club soda and garnish with a basil leaf.

Voila-- a garden fresh cocktail for your weeknight happy hour! I used my Little Black Dress Vodka which is extra smooth, and you couldn't even taste any alcohol in it (dangerous- I know!)

Try This Trend: Beautiful Business Cards

As I get ready for this weekend's Wisconsin blogger brunch I couldn't help but think how I needed a new chic business card to trade with the other bloggers! It's definitely a must for keeping in touch and networking after blogging events. An eye-catching business card design is sure to be remembered.

I've found these business card beauties on Etsy which range from digital files you can download and print yourself to the physical cards themselves in your mailbox.

Try This Trend: Beautiful Business Cards

If you're a blogger be sure to include your blog address, email and a twitter or facebook page link if you can fit it on your card- it's always good to display all the places you can socialize! I also love buying them off Etsy to support an indie designer (thought has beautiful styles as well!)

Which is your favorite design??

Gameday Glam in College Boots

Can you believe the start of college football season is less than a month away?! I love being a Seminole alumni because near or far from Tallahassee I have a connection to all the alumni out there. If you followed my blog at all in college, cowboy boots for game day were kind of my thing!

So, I was SO excited to show off a pair of my new College Boots from Nocona Boots! In typical southern gameday fashion I like to pair back mine to a gameday dress (Twelve Saturdays has the best!) or school spirit tee & skirt! Can't wait to get back to Doak Campbell statidum to rock these.

Masculine Meets Feminine Design

Today's post is a nod to my guy for his birthday! We've been living together for the last couple of months and it's been great. Lots of cooking together, Game of Thrones nights & really just a lot of fun. One of the biggest challenges of sharing a space is finding a shared design aesthetic. I tend to be overtly colorful and girly, he is very modern and simplistic. A match made in design heaven right?! ;)

I'm on a mission to find a good compromise for both of us for the bedroom; something that feels comfortable to us both, yet still allows us to incorporate a little bit of our personal design style. I can imagine any design savvy readers living with a significant other or spouse can relate!

I've pulled a few of my favorite masculine meets feminine designed bedrooms. They are a great balance of femininity and style yet grounded in neutrals and masculine accents.

Just as relationships are all about compromise so is interior design in a shared living space. I love this take on masculine meets feminine decor for a master bedroom.

In our case, Kyle's side is modern meets techy (that red lego looking item is actually a jambox speaker), mine would be shabby chic with a splash of bold pattern.
