Summer Beauty Secrets

Spending most of my life in Florida- I definitely learned my fair share of summer beauty secrets. When it's so hot that your makeup seems to be melting off, sometimes you just have to go with it. I'm low maintenance when it comes to my beauty routine in the summertime, but I have a few go to "secrets" that I wanted to share!

Who's ready for summer?

Summer Beauty Secrets

1. For Treating Dry & Damaged Hair: Moroccanoil TreatmentLeaves your hair healthy, shiny and more manageable! (win, win, win.. especially in the Summertime)!
2. For Wavy Surfer Girl Hair: Not Your Mother's- Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray-  I try to stay blow-dry free in the summertime. A few spritzes of this and I have wavy surfer girl hair, even sans beach!
3. For Rocking Sandals all Summer: Jenna Hipp Polish & Ruby Wing Color Changing Polish- Keep your tootsies polished during sandal season- I love a bright color (& love this color changing one!)
4. For a Sunless Insta-Tan: Tan Towel -It doesn't really feel like summer if I'm not sporting a tan glow, but skin cancer is no bueno. I've tried a lot of sunless tanners and Tan Towels are my absolute favorite- they're quick, treak free, a really natural looking color & definitely worth the splurge.
5. For SPF Protection (that smells amazing): Australian Gold SPF 30- I probably should not admit this, but when I was a little surfer girl in high school, I used to put this on every day not just for the sun protection but because it just smells oh-so-amazing and beachy.

What are your favorite summer beauty products? Inquiring minds want to know!

Dog Days of Summer

I miss having a dog around- but my schedule makes it tough. So, I love when my boyfriend's family dog, Lucy, comes to stay with us. She's the sweetest weimaraner who loves nothing more than snuggling up toyou & a walk around the neighborhood. I snapped these over the weekend on one of her walks. Even though she's not my family dog, she's accepted me as one of her own.

Note to self: fabulous dog walking editorials are not really an option with a strong willed pup who won't sit still. But- that's okay, I love these anyway- and our walks today.

Dog Days of Summer

On a fashion note. I score this striped little number on one of my last visits to Nordstrom Rack. It's  comfy, flattering and perfectly preppy- which pretty much meets all the LPF criteria! It's dress season FINALLY- so I'm going to be taking full advantage.

Happy Friday y'all!

Lemon Strawberry Spritzer

During the summertime there are few things that I love more than cocktails on the porch or patio. I've become a pro at concocting delicious drinks with whatever ingredients we have around. Don't get me started on adding herbs to my drink.. I can't wait until my mint + basil herb garden is ready!

Tonight I whipped up a lemon strawberry spritzer. It's light, refreshing and sweet. It would be so perfect for hosting an outdoor happy hour with friends (and it's super easy to whip up). Break out your trusty cocktail mixer, because you'll definitely want to try this one.

Lemon Strawberry Spritzer

5 oz white wine (I love sauvignon blanc or.. whatever is on sale at Trader Joe's)
1 oz lemon juice (about half of a small lemon)
1 tsp fine sugar
2 Strawberries
2 oz club soda

1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle two strawberries with a tsp. of sugar
2. Add lemon juice & wine and a small amount of ice
3. Shake well, strain, & pour over ice in a cocktail glass
4. Top off glass with club soda (and maybe a fun garnish!)

Do you like making craft cocktails too? What are your go-to's (leave links so I can try them!)

Beat the Heat with Fruttare Fruit Bars!

“This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Fruttare, but all my opinions are my own. #itsallgood #pmedia

I could not have asked for a more perfect weekend. I spent every spare second outside- and I wouldn't have had it any other way. During the summer I love any excuse to be outdoors.. dinners al fresco, kayaking on the lake, Saturdays at the farmer's market, and beating the heat with a cool and tasty treat.

Meet said cool and tasty treat- Fruttare Fruit Bars! I spent the long weekend catching up on magazines (and some rays), and beating the heat with these cool and refreshing Fruttare fruit bars (in Mango & Strawberry and Milk flavors)!

Beat the Heat with Fruttare Fruit Bars

Beat the Heat with Fruttare Fruit Bars

Beat the Heat with Fruttare Fruit Bars

Beat the Heat with Fruttare Fruit Bars

The Fruttare Fruit Bars are seriously delicious. They're packed with real fruit taste, creamy milk, or refreshing juice. To me there's no better way to "treat yo self" in the hot summer sun than an icy fruit bar- or even have them as dessert when summer entertaining.

I picked up my Fruttare bars on an impulse trip to Hyvee, but they sell them at most grocery stores. You know it's a good day when the hardest decision you have to make is which flavor of fruit bar to buy (next time I'm totally trying the pineapple or lime.. or maybe the coconut?!). I was excited that that they even matched my summer #armparty.

I even found some DIY cocktail recipes using the fruit bars on the Fruttare facebook page. I have a feeling it's going to be a reallyyyyy good summer y'all.

An All American Summer

With Memorial Day weekend marking the unofficial start of summer (and the worst winter ever), I have summer on the brain! I want to soak up every last moment enjoying the sunshine and marking things off my summer bucket list. Who's with me?

Not only do these gorgeous images evoke feelings of an all American summer- they also are sort of a visual summer to-do list for me. (It's always a sort of challenge I propose to myself eachyear). These are a few of the simple summer pleasures I want to enjoy this year:

All American Summer
1. Bake a pie from scratch (image)

All American Summer
2. Go Camping (image)

All American Summer
3. Go tubing down the river (image)

 All American Summer
4. Ride the rollercoasters at an amusement park (image)

All American Summer
5. Take a canoe trip  (image)

 All American Summer

6. Take a roadtrip (image)

All American Summer
7. Have a picnic (image)

I like summers to be spontaneous and full of adventure- never knowing when you might end up taking a hike, trip to the lake, or end up at a local festival. But- I can't help but want to plan every last weekend full of fun.

Summers in the Midwest are so different from what I grew up with in Florida. I miss going out to the island on the boat & spending all day in the sun- but there's something very special about a Midwest summer spend outside and soaking up every second.

We have a Wisconsin bed & breakfast gift certificate that my family gave me for Christmas and I'm dying to spend a weekend exploring Door County- an area of Wisco I've yet to see!

What's on your summer to-do list?

Preppy Memorial Day Style

I've been seriously anxiously awaiting the time that it would be warm enough to break out this preppy seahorse dress I scored on sale at Target last summer. It's navy & red color scheme make it too perfect for Memorial Day weekend festivities (especially when paired with a monogram necklace & my fave red Bare Minerals Moxie lip gloss!)

As much fun as it is to kick off the summer fun- I'd still like to remember and recognize all of those who have fought for our freedom. Which is what this weekend is really about.

Summer Whites // Summer Brights

Wow has it been one whirlwind of a week. I spent a short but sweet 24 hours in New York to host a social media event (but more on that later)! Now that this weekend marks the unofficial start to summer, so does my eternal battle with my closet.

Each day when I'm getting dressed in the morning I have to decide if I'm going to go with summer whites or summer brights (or maybe a combination of them both)! I've picked a few of my favorite must-have summer pieces from Shopbop in each category, so it's easily a win-win situation!

Summer Whites // Summer Brights from Shopbop

Shop the Post:

4. Fringe Earrings- Adia Kibur: These statement earrings pack a serious punch
5. Slingback Sandals- Sam Edelman: The slide sandal silhouette is trending in a big way

A Pink Phase

You know how artists go through different color phases? Well, I feel like I do the same with clothes. Right now I'm going through a MAJOR pink phase. I can't help it- i'm instantly drawn to it and the brighter the better. I picked up this neon pink tank dress at American Eagle & I'm already looking forward to wearing it all summer long.

Latest Lust: MAI

Life is all about finding a balance right? Between work and play. Eating healthy and indulging. Relaxing & action packed days. When I found MAI, I loved it because it was exactly that- clothes
that could take you from yoga class to drinks with the girls.

The MAI clothing line just gets me. Their mantra is I AM enough. and they "believe that who you are is exactly who you should be." and that is a sentiment I can get behind. I'm wearing one of their dresses in today's post that is equally as perfect to throw on after yoga as it is for this perfect spring weekend!

Try This Trend: Beach Babe

What I love most about the beach babe trend is that you don't even have to be at the beach to get the look. (Which is great since I'm thousands of miles from the nearest coast)! Beach babes are more than just stylish- they have an air of confidence in everything they do.

So what if you didn't take the time to blow dry your hair this morning- rock those beachy waves, put on those reflective shades & cutoff jeans and you're ready to take on summer.

Try this Trend: Beach Babe

There's so much I love in this post. The babe part of beach babe is key. Swim trends for Summer 2014 are fall about sexy cutouts and bustier swim top style- and accessorizing is just as important as the swimwear. A flower crown headband is perfectly paired with beachy waves. Other easy ways to accessorize are a pair of reflective shades, statement earrings, or bubblegum pink lipstick.

Who else is SO ready for the beach and summertime?

Blogger Buzz: May Flowers

And since April showers bring May flowers, the crew thought it might be fun to share their favorite blooms!
  1. Samantha Peterson via The Brunette One // I love Ranunculus.
  2. Lauren Felix of La Petite Fashionista // When I first moved to Wisconsin, I was so spoiled because I had Peonies growing right outside my house! I was always sticking them in mason jars.
  3. Meghan Anderson of Downtown Daydreams // It depends on the season, but Peonies always catch my eye! I love how dainty they are, and adore the plethora of beautiful colors you can find them blooming in.
  4. Laura Podlich of Beauty & the Beard //  Orange Lilies remind me of my mother's gardens at the house I grew up in!
  5. Katherine Nolden of The Duchess of Plumewood // Gerber Daisies lift my mood every time I see them—so bright and fun!
  6. Ashley Fine of One Fine Day // Whenever I have white-colored Hydrangeas in the house, I suddenly feel as though I live in a Nancy Meyers flick (Something's Gotta Give, anyone?), or I could mingle with Ina Garten in The Hamptons.
What's your bloom of choice? Do tell.

Latest Lust: Inspirational Prints

I don't normally share many personal things on LPF, but this week has been really difficult for me. My dear grandpa, my poppie, passed away and I just feel sad. We're just going to miss him so much. It's been nice to gather with family members to celebrate his life- but it's never easy to lose someone you're close to.

In honor of his memory, there's nothing I wanted to share more today than a collection of inspiring prints. I love the idea of having these uplifting quotes & sayings hanging in your house. Whenever you are having a bad day you can look at them and instantly feel uplifted.

MadRunway Fashion Show

It's not very often that we have a fashion event in Wisconsin (though hopefully we're working to change that)- so when I was so thrilled to attend MadRunway hosted by the Madison Sewing Studio. I connected with the sweet organizers Maggie & Melissa when we went to talk small biz over coffee so I was so excited to support them.

The talent for the event included designs from Emily Osterbauer, Dimes & Wednesday, Maggie Modena, Lauren Lynch & Alyssa Kristin. So much talent and creativity in the Midwest- I love it!

Steal Her Style: Emma Stone at the Met Gala

Okay okay, so I know the Met Gala was so three days ago, but I'm just now catching up on all of the red carpet pictures. I can without a doubt say that Emma Stone's pink on pink crop top & maxi skirt look has to be one of my favorite red carpet moments ever. I just love how youthful, glam, and the teeniest bit sultry it is. Plus I'm a sucker for the Elsa braid (Frozen, hello!).

I'm recreating the look here (love that it'd be equally as fun for a night out with the girls as the red carpet)!

Loving this Look: Emma Stone

I have to admit I'm absolutely loving the complementary bubbly gum pink paired with hot pink. It's so unexpected, and truly so me. Color me inspired!

Did you check out the red carpet from the Met Gala as well? Which look was your favorite?

Your Last Minute Beach Day Best Friend: Venus Snap with Embrace

My favorite thing about Summer has to be the spontaneity of it all. One minute you’re binge watching episodes of the Mindy Project and the next, your bestie calls & you are en route to the beach. Half-day fridays at work are positively meant for last minute afternoons at our local lake. I throw everything in a tote bag and am out the door in 5 minutes flat.

I’m sharing a few of my favorite pieces for a last minute beach day. Can we say cheers to summer or what?!

1. Stylish Sundress- This is a must in case your afternoon at the beach ends up as an evening out with friends.

2. Accessories- The easiest way to take your beach look from day to night is adding a few accessories- I’m partial to an arm full of bracelets.

3. Bikini- This one’s a given- Make sure it’s something you feel comfortable & stylish in!

4. Venus Snap with Embrace Razor- This is seriously the last minute beach day’s best friend. If you don’t have time, or forgot to shave your legs- just add water and you can get instant smoothness no matter where you are. Plus it comes in a stylish & discreet little compact that’s perfect to throw in your beach bag when you’re on the go.

5. Cute Sandals- As I mentioned in a post earlier this week, I’m all about the dressier sandals like this metallic pair.

6. Sunglasses- Because let’s be real. Everyone looks better in a pair of shades ;)

7. Beach Hat- Save your face from getting too much fun with a colorful floppy beach hat. I couldn’t resist adding a cute monogram to mine.

This is seriously going to be a summertime game changer..

Okay, anyone else REALLY ready for a trip to the beach now? It’s going to be a good summer.

xoxo, lauren

The Sweet Life: Insta Faves

I seriously love instagram- it's the perfect outlet for posting inspiration and little snippets of life, and seeing what my favorite bloggers & friends are up to. There's so many time those instagram posts never make it on my blog (it's a good thing to have too much to blog about right?!).

I thought I'd share a few of my faves that didn't make it on the blog (apparently I have a thing for sweet treats, coffee & monograms.. but you probablyyyy already knew that)!

Cinco de Mayo Style

Cinco de Mayo's of my college years were usually spent having way too much fun out on our local island celebrating my bestie Kelly's birthday. SO many good memories. Now that I'm in the post-grad world, Cinco de Mayo is usually spent with a much more low key margarita and chips and salsa at home. Although, Kyle makes a pretty darn good margarita I must admit (recipe here).

If I can't celebrate the day with beergaritas & sunshine- the least I can do is wear a Mexican inspired blouse. I love this cobalt & pink embroidered blouse that's perfect for the occasion.

What Would Audrey Wear?

Audrey Hepburn is one of my eternal style icons. She only grew more beautiful & glamorous with age. She had such a classy, glamorous and distinctive style. Whether in a little black dress she made famous, cat eye sunglasses, accessorized with a straw hat or classic striped tee- she exuded style and femininity.

Sometimes when I'm looking for something to wear in the morning I like to think to myself: "What Would Audrey Wear?"

What Would Audrey Wear

What Would Audrey Wear?
  •  Little Black Dress:  It's all in the details with a little black dress- choose cutout sides, pretty bows, and pair with a string of statement pearls.
  • Cat Eye Glasses: Add a pair of cat eye glasses to a swimsuit and get instant retro glam
  • Straw Hat: Hats are majorly trending again, Audrey always knew how to wear them in style
  • Striped Tee: A totally classic look, pair with timeless denim or a full skirt.
Who are your classic style icons?

Snail Mail Confessions

There is seriously nothing that makes me happier than opening up my mailbox and seeing a card from a friend or family member. Being so far away from most of them can be hard, so it's so nice to know that they're thinking about you! I will admit I'm a much better receiver than sender- though that's something I'm seriously trying to change.

I've rounded up a few of my favorite picks that I know will inspire me to put pen to paper.

Latest Lust: Snail Mail
(Just click the image to see the sources!)

I also discovered the busy girl's best kept secret- Cardstore! They let you personalize a card with a photo or name on the front (or select one of their pre-designed cards), type your message and even (the best part) send it to the recipient for you. It's seriously going to be life changing for me. I feel like I'm never going to have to feel sad about forgetting to send a card for someone's birthday!

Snail Mail Love Notes

I couldn't resist sending a little love note to Kyle. I will never get tired of just because cards. Who needs special occasions to tell someone you're thinking about them. I'm the queen of post-it love notes, but this is so much better!

How do you keep in touch- email, skype, snail mail? Please tell me I'm not the only one with a mass of beautiful notecards and is horrible at sending them out? Friends if you're reading this I promise I will make a change :)
