Pineapple Paradise

In the summertime I love nothing more on a Saturday evening than hunting through our liquor cabinet to mix up a DIY concoction. There's nowhere better to sit and drink one of my craft cocktails than relaxing in an adirondack chair in a summery sundress. I have a penchant for pineapples- whether it comes to my drink or decor- so I've been loving how much they've been trending lately.

I had the opportunity to design my dream dress on the Bow & Drape site. I knew right away that I wanted it to be pretty in pink & with a pineapple embellishment & ode to my adoration for Hawaii ("Aloha"!). The ballerina dress is super flattering & comfy too. It's pretty much the perfect complement to the Ruby Pina Colada cocktail I whipped up (recipe below!)

Customized "Aloha" Pineapple Dress from Bow & Drape

"Aloha" Dress from Bow & Drape

La Petite Fashionista: Pineapple Dress- Bow & Drape

I've been following Bow & Drape on instagram and have always loved their fun sequined sayings on everything from sweatshirts to totes- so I was overwhelmingly excited to have the opportunity to custom make my own design. The site is SO much fun to play around on- customizing dresses, tees, sweatshirts & more with your own witty phrases or sequined embellishments. I love that they're all produced in NYC and how you can make each piece so very 'you"!  Be sure to check out their site.

I also had to share the tasty cocktail I whipped up for the photoshoot which I've named the "Ruby Pina Colada Cocktail"

Ruby Pina Colada Cocktail

Ruby Pina Colada Cocktail
1 oz Malibu Coconut Rum
6 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice

Rim of Glass:
1 tsp Honey
1 tbsp Coconut Flakes

1. Coat rim of glass with honey & cover with coconut flakes
2. Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker, strain & pour over ice

I want to know what you'd design on the Bow & Drape site! Have any witty sayings you'd love to put on a tee?

Sunset Shades

I'm instantly drawn to all things that remind me of the beach. I'm thankful I'll be making a trip home to FL this summer to soak up some sun and sand. My latest find is this Sunset Print oversized clutch from Samudra- I couldn't resist the photo-real sunset print- that perfectly ties back to my neon pink sundress. I love that it's an oversized clutch size- big enough to fit all of my essentials and make a stylish statement!

Maya was in town this weekend- and sweet enough to snap a few pictures (don't you love how other bloggers understand the need for a cute outfit pic?!)

Latest Lust: Gorge Graphic Tees

This palm tree tee from Sincerely Jules was calling out to my inner Florida girl and I knew I needed it! Graphic tees are seriously trending again. Forget the brand logo-ed tees of the 00's - this time around fashion brands are loving french phrases, photo-real images, vintage band tees & quirky puns. Styling of graphic tees is getting updated too- blousier tees tucked into denim with heels or a a floaty skirt

This tee was perfect for a sunny summer afternoon especially when paired with a bright turquoise statement necklace & killer heels.

Seersucker Summer

I don’t think I could have found a more perfect way to spend the official start of summer than at my family’s lake house. I spent the weekend hopping into local antique stores, drinking plenty of Leinie’s summer shandy, visiting with family, and breaking in the new canoe.

Whenever I’m up north I gravitate towards clothes that are equal parts comfortable and classic. This seersucker dress has been in my closet for a few years and it has such a perfect all-American feel. Even for someone as accessory obsessed as me- I know my giant statement necklaces have no place in the north woods, so these delicate necklaces from Lotkie are the perfect finishing touch.

I can only hope that all weekends this summer are as perfect as this one was! There’s something about a weekend at the lake that makes me want to break out all my preppy favorites- whether it’s stripes, seersucker, summer weight sweaters, or perfectly paired accessories.

What’s your idea of a perfect summer weekend?

Floral Fever with Nordstrom Rack

I have a fashion confession to make- you might not find me in anything other than sundresses the whole summer. There’s no easier way to feel instantly stylish than slipping on a printed dress and a pair of sky high wedges, with a colorful bag thrown in for good measure.

This look featuring a floral print dress & accessories from Nordstrom Rack is an easy breezy summer style, and the best part is the great deals. (Because, let’s be honest- there’s nothing sweeter than getting a designer bag for less!) My perfect summer afternoon definitely involves relaxing with a good book or doing a little bit of shopping.

Striped Sweater Weekend

Kyle + I drove up for a quick but relaxing weekend at the family lake house. Though it's a tad too chilly for our usual swimming and tubing the lake we've been enjoying visiting the small neighborhood downtowns hopping into antique stores and the traditional Friday night fish fry. It's definitely my happy place up here. It might be 2 hours from the nearest Starbucks (gasp!), but there's so much small town charm and gorgeous nature that I feel right at home.

We snapped these pictures out on the deck before getting ready for a waterski show tonight (my guilty pleasure- can't make a trip up north without seeing one!)

Seriously Stylish Statement Necklaces

I'm pretty thankful to have friends with great wardrobes. At last week's Blogger Bazaar in Milwaukee, Maya and I had booths right next to eachother. Perfect for catching up with one of my favorite Chicago ladies and of course scoping out all the pieces she was selling.  Such a fun time meeting and hanging out with some local bloggers and one of my fav local business owners, Lizzie at Shop Lizzibeth (see her tassel necklace featured below and in our upcoming issue of LPF Mag!)

Maya and I both ended up doing some swapping- I am in total love with this colorful necklace from her. It's so bright, bold and so very LPF- and as you know I have a thing for statement making jewelry.

I love investing in accessories because you get so much wear out of them. It's so easy to give a basic outfit some sass. Check out a few of my favorite seriously stylish statement necklaces below:

Try This Trend: Mix + Match Bikinis

It's hard to believe that not so long ago no one really sold bikinis as separates. You were pretty much stuck with whatever came in sets regardless of print and pattern or size. I used to create my own mix + match sets in my swimsuit drawer, pulling different tops and bottoms together to create new sets.

Thankfully, separates have pretty much become a must-have for swimsuit brands- and for good reason. Now, you can choose the tops and bottoms that fit and flatter your figure and even have a little fun (and add some versatility) by mixing it up.

Check out my favorite mix & match tops and bottoms in trendy summer prints:

Try This Trend: Mix + Match Bikinis

Shop the Trend: Tribal Print Top | BottomGeometric Glam Top | Bottom,
Chevron Chic Top | Bottom, Island Girl Top | Bottom

Here are a few of my favorite tips for mixing and matching your swimwear:

1.  Choose one pattern piece & one solid for easiest mixing and matching
2. Choose a print to highlight whichever area of your body you'd like to play up (Flat chested? Try a printed top! No junk in the trunk? Go for a printed bottom!)
3. Select a print that features the solid color so it will coordinate easily
4. Wear the same size on top & bottom? Save money and build your swim wardrobe by picking up inexpensive sets that you can mix and match at T.J. Maxx & Marshalls

I'm loving all of the fun details that are trending in swim this year- unique cutouts, athletic inspired styling, photo-real prints, bustiers, and watercolor prints are all getting a ton of play.

Do you mix & match your swimwear tops + bottoms?

Today I'm participating in one of my good friend, Maya's campaigns, #RealBloggerBeauty. A day to share whatever we want about embracing ourselves, feeling comfortable in our own skin, and not getting caught up in the competition of the blogging world. Be sure to read everyone's moving stories today!

For me it started with a comment "You look better with your hair down, why would you wear it in a ponytail".. a comment an old boyfriend made to me many years ago. It's funny the things that stick with you- things that people don't mean to be hurtful but really do effect you. Everyone wants to be the best version of themselves, so if someone tells you that something doesn't flatter you, you internalize that!

I never really realized how much those words had stuck with me until someone asked me "Why don't you ever wear your hair up, you know other than when you're at the gym?". I had to really think about it, and when I did, I realized it was because of that statement so many years ago.

When the top knot trend came around in the fashion world, I tried it and quickly decided it wasn't for me- remembering that "I didn't look as good with my hair up." It sounds so silly, right? Especially when it wasn't meant to hurt my feelings (or give me a lifelong aversion to ponytails!). Safe to say I'm finally getting over it, embracing my inner #GirlBoss and doing what I want to do with my hair ;)

I'm writing today's post because I want you, lovely reader, to truly think about the things you say to people about their appearance. I'm lucky enough to not have ever had a boyfriend or family member comment on my weight or body type, but I imagine that would have affected me 10x worse.

Our brain somehow chooses to remember the worst and never the positive. My two cents? Keep the negativity to your self, fill people's life with joy and help them focus on the positive. We all do a good enough job pointing out our flaws that we don't need someone else to do that for us.

Sorry for getting a little sappy on you today friends, but in the spirit of the Real Blogger Beauty movement, I thought it was more than necessary! Please do share your story today and leave it in the comments so I can show you some love!

xoxo, lauren

Neon + Neutral

Yesterday at the Blogger Bazaar in Milwaukee I was telling someone that I have champagne taste on a beer budget. So often on LPF I talk about adding great trends to your closet and shopping in an affordable way! I love finding boutiques that share the same sentiment on style & being able to share these gems on my blog.

The Mint Julep Boutique gets updated with trendy new pieces daily and the best part is that it's fashion that won't break the bank! In today's post I'm rocking the neon + neutral trend with the Floral Lattice Dress from their shop.I love the pop of bright coral on the hem of the dress!

Diving into Summer with the Lands' End #GetawayTour

The Lands' End #GetawayTour came to Madison this weekend for its last stop and I was thrilled to have the chance to be a part of it. I've been helping with the tour a bit you see- I had the excitement of hosting a google hangout live from the NYC tour stop (you might spot me in this video) with a Lands' End swimwear designer & Glamour Magazine Glambassador, Kendall Farr. But, it was so fun to experience the event as a blogger.

Lands' End #GetawayTour

I got to go with two fellow blogging girlfriends Emily & Kendall! In a short hour I learned exactly what type of swimsuit I needed to be wearing to flatter my body type thanks to their fit pro & girl talk with expert stylist (and author of the Pocket Stylist), Kendall Farr!

Style Tips from Kendall Farr at the Lands' End #GetawayTour

Kendall was a blast to talk to- she taught us more about taking our look from beach to brunch (helloo gorge accessories & cover ups!) to sunglasses that flatter our face (mirror a similar silhouette of sunglasses  that your face has!) & some pearls of fashion wisdom.

I think one of the things Kendall talked about that stuck with me most was about dressing for your age & body type. She says that you should strive to be the most stylish AND the smartest woman in the room. I couldn't agree more! It's about knowing that not every trend can be worn by everyone and finding swimwear that flatter you and make you feel confident and beautiful.

Stylish Swim Tees at the Lands' End #GetawayTour

The event itself was so cool- a traveling pop up beach house complete with top deck beach chairs & copies of Glamour Magazine, videos featuring tips on finding your perfect swim fit & gorgeous swimwear galore. I'm pretty obsessed with the swim tees- I'm a surfer girl at heart, and they are such a stylish take on a rashguard with UPF 50 protection. You can see me rocking a perfectly polka dotted one in the video.

This retro glam, old Hollywood style,  Bella Flora print collection was a blogger favorite (check out The Style Letters & Look Sharp Sconnie looking seriously gorge)! Being as print obsessed as I am I had to try it on!

I got a professional swim fitting from a Lands' End swimwear designer, Freyja. Not going to lie, I was the teensiest bit terrified of having someone take my measurements and recommend a swimsuit. So often we go in thinking we're one size or that we want a certain style of swimsuit- and end up unhappy with the results.

Luckily, the fit experts at Lands' End were pros and made it completely painless & actually a fantastic experience! It's pretty magical when you actually take the steps to ensure you have the perfect fit.

It was such a fun weekend and awesome experience!

Crop Top Summer

If you would have asked me a few weeks ago if I'd be rocking crop tops this summer, I probably would have given you a solid heck no. For full transparency- let me tell you it's been a long long winter with entirely too much comfort food, and I am just now coming to terms with having to be in a bathing suit now that summer is here (but more on that later this week).

This week I ignored that voice in my head saying "no" & tried on this elastic waist maxi skirt & cropped tank top, and lo and behold- I felt confident and carefree. paired with a higher waist & tiny peek of midriff, it's actually flattering and highlights the smallest part of your frame if you have an hourglass shape like me.

La Petite Fashionista: Crop Top Summer

So, I encourage you all to break your own fashion rules. Don't be your own worst enemy in the dressing room. Give silhouettes & trends a chance that you wouldn't normally consider... you might surprise yourself!

The trick to wearing this style if you're on the petite side, or you've got some curves is to choose a skirt that hits higher on the waistline, and pair with a crop top that's not too short. If you're out of college- keep the midriff to a minimum.

Have you found yourself in the same boat.. assuming that a certain style won't work for you & then become happily surprised when it does?

Watercolor Florals

You know the kind of outfit where people stop you in the hall to compliment you? Best feeling ever. This gorge watercolor floral skirt I just picked up from Aeropostale had exactly that effect. Try This Trend: Matching Crop Top + Skirt

I love seeing my runway trend predictions come to fruition. During the SS14 fashion shows, I saw the matchy-matchy trend hit the runway in a big way. This look is everywhere for summer and though it  might seems fashion forward, it's actually really easy to wear for yourself. I just bought a set from Aeropostale and I'm pretty in love-  so excited to wear it in an outfit post!

I love this look best with just a tiny bit of midriff showing, and a full skirt- to keep it from feeling like something out of Clueless. Get the look with the styles below:

Try This Trend: Matching Crop Top + Skirt

I love seeing these stylish bloggers wear the matching separates trend because they show that it's just as wearable off the runway! I'm partial to the prints, but I think the solids coordinating top & skirt could be really elongating on a petite figure!

The best part about this trend is that you can easily wear each of the pieces mixed and matched with other pieces in your closet.

Would you try this trend?

Latest Lust: Free People Movement x Surf Collection

If you know anything about me, know that I can't resist a good surfing fashion editorial. I've always loved surf culture and style, so it makes me even happier that it's become a fashion trend too & surfing is getting a high fashion upgrade when it comes to functional and fabulous swimwear, prints & designs.

The Free People Movement: Surf collection is beautiful. It makes me want to hop on the next plane to the North Shore of Hawaii and spend the rest of my summer on a surfboard in one of these gorgeous pieces. Luckily, these pieces will look equally as cool by the pool as they do riding waves.

Latest Lust: Free People Movement {Surf} Collection

The collection was done in partnership with Zinke, and I am in love with the fashion forward takes on the rashguard, one piece & colorful surfboard prints. Now I just need to spend the next few weeks doing Karena & Katrina's Surfer Paradise workout to rock said swimsuits.

SUP Yoga classes start this week at my local lake, and can't wait to give it a try. I miss being out on the water!
