Georgia Peach Bridal Shower

The highlight of my trip to Florida was celebrating my bestie's bridal shower. Kelly and I have been friends literally since we were in diapers. We were neighbors & spent our afternoons playing, being creative, and doing all the things that best friends do. I'm so lucky to have had her as a friend for literally my whole life- so it was so much fun to see her as a soon to be bride.

Me, my mom, friend Amy & her mom planned Kelly's bridal shower. The shower was a Georgia Peach theme (where she'll be getting married). We went for more southern elegant than rustic feel full of delicious food & special details. It turned out so beautifully that I just wanted to share a few of my favorite snapshots.

Georgia Peach Bridal Shower: "You're a Peach" Napkins

Southern Style Georgia Peach Bridal Shower: Pecan Bars

Georgia Peach Bridal Shower: Peach Sangria

Georgia Peach Bridal Shower: DIY floral poufs

Georgia Peach Bridal Shower: "I DO" gold sign & white roses

Get the Look:

We had simple & beautiful peach hydrangeas & baby's breath floral arrangements on the tables, tissue paper flowers hanging that a talented friend DIY'd & tasty desserts with a southern flair- pecan bars & peach cobbler. Of course seeing Kelly, oh-so-happy was the best part!

I can't wait for her wedding- it's going to be so beautiful!

#LPFTravels: Florida

I can't believe I'm already home from Florida- such a whirlwind trip- and it always is. I squeezed in a relaxing day on the boat, shopping with my sister, and all the macadamia nut pancakes & cups of organic coffee I could drink- as well as my bestie's beautiful bridal shower (more on that later)!

I just wanted to share a few of my favorite snapshots from my trip home. See more on instagram.

Beach Hair, Don't Care

Scuba skirts are my favorite. The neoprene-like material is so so comfortable and ultra flattering. This batik/tie dye print is right up my alley- a little bit modern, a little bit boho. I forgot how hot & humid it is here in the summertime and basically you want to be as airy & comfy as possible to beat the heat.  I'm pretty much loving this constant state of beach hair.

I can't believe I'm already leaving tomorrow to go back to Wisconsin. As always, it's been a whirlwind of a trip- but so happy to see so many of my friends and family (and come back with a tan). I got to spend all day on the boat on the Gulf of Mexico one day this week drinking beer in the sun & it was a little slice of heaven on earth!

Summer at the Lake Editorial: La Petite Fashionista Magazine

The newest issue of La Petite Fashionista Magazine is here and it's been awesome hearing everyone's feedback on the new issue. The contributors and I are SO proud of it! I had so much fun putting together this "Summer at the Lake" editorial featuring my lovely intern Courtney and her friend Madalyn! We shot it right in Madison at the lake- one of my absolute favorite places to spend a summer afternoon. I styled them in red, white & blue Americana pieces & borrowed gorgeous jewelry pieces from Lizzibeth & Olivia Taylor.

Home Sweet Home

I'm back home in Florida for the week, and it's been truly bizarre trying to come back to terms with the 95 degree afternoons, frizzy hair humidity and my dad taking outfit pictures for me. Not so bizarre is being able to get together for dinner and drinks with my besties that I usually only see once a year these days and coffee shop dates with my sister at our favorite organic cafe!

Basically, when I pack for home I throw in all of the most colorful pieces in my closet (and raid my sisters' when I still feel like I don't have anything to wear- some things NEVER change!)

Muchana Hats + Pineapple Prints

I met the lovely ladies of Muchana hats at Go Blog Social, a blogging conference I attended & spoke at in Kansas City a few months ago. Let me tell you these hats totally stole the show in a well dressed room of bloggers. Nothing is a better conversation starter than a cute hat!

I came to find out that the girls, Katie & Kelly were sisters, who own a handmade hat company, Muchana hats! Each hat is handwoven by a family of artisans in Ecuador and are absolutely beautifully made. I figured what better combination for my giant sun hat than this fun pineapple print top & navy eyelet skirt I just picked up at Aeropostale.

Blue Cutout Dress & Neon Accessories

This piece from 6 Shore Road has to be without a doubt be my favorite sundress of summer. The peekaboo cutouts & strappy back are comfortable and super feminine. It's been one of my favorite date night dresses. I slipped it on while shooting one of our last spreads for LPF Mag (DIY Beach Hair Spray)!

I've literally been living in coffee shops over the last couple of weeks trying to wrap up our summer issue of La Petite Fashionista Magazine -officially releasing tomorrow. I can't wait for you to see it!

Haute Hat

Kyle and I spent Sunday afternoon at a local art fair walking around and checking out local artists work and looking for some unique art prints of our place (modern  rustic w/ a touch of geek chic-- if there's such a thing?). I took this as the perfect opportunity to break out my panama hat on this hot summer afternoon.

I can't believe I'll be leaving for Florida in a week- I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and hopefully do some working from the beach. This colorful Roxy sundress is definitely coming with me (be sure to check out the link below- It's on sale now for only $22!)

7 Summer Smoothie Recipes

Ever since I've started working from home I'm trying to commit to making a smoothie every morning for breakfast. I usually just grab a granola bar- but it's nice to start my day off on a smoothie note! I've been doing a lot of experiment with different combos of fruit, leafy greens, greek yogurt, protein powder, coconut milk, fruit juices & the occasional spoonful of peanut butter.

I've rounded up six new recipes I'm dying to try- and one of my own. These are all banana free- because I'm not a fan- and seriously you have no idea how many usually contain bananas!

7 Summer Smoothies

7 Summer Smoothie Recipes:

Here's one that I made this week that was OH-so-good, and packed with protein.

Pina Colada Smoothie- packed w/ protein

This smoothie turned out creamy and the perfect balance of coconut and pineapple. It would be just as perfect on a beach in Hawaii as it was standing in my kitchen for breakfast.

Pina Colada Protein Smoothie
(serves 1)
1 cup frozen pineapple
4 oz pineapple juice
1/2 c coconut milk
1/2 cup plain nonfat greek yogurt
2 tbsp. unsweetened coconut flakes
1 tbsp protein powder
1/2 tsp honey

I'm sharing a few of my favorite smoothie essentials from healthy mix-ins like chia and flax seeds, powdered pb2 and my trust magic bullet blender.I'm also going to start getting better about prepping in advance and having my smoothie ingredients in individual bags or coconut milk in frozen ice cubes. I also find that smoothies are way more fun to drink in a cute tumbler!

If you're a fellow smoothie maker, please please share your favorite recipes!

Matchy Matchy

As you've seen on the blog before- I'm a big fan of the matching separates look. It's surprisingly easy to wear this SS14 runway trend- and even flattering. Choose a crop top that highlights your tiniest area. I tend to look best in a piece that accentuates my waist and balances out my curves whether it's a tiny peek of skin with a crop top or a floaty dress belted at the waist.

You can get the same look with a crop top & high waisted skirt- but you can take the trend up a notch with a matching top and skirt. I scored this one at Aeropostale for a great deal!

[Practically] Guilt Free Funfetti Dip

I have a major sweet tooth, but prefer a slightly less guilt free option than cookies or cake (though those alwayssss sound good). One of my favorite sweet snacks to prepare for get togethers is this guilt free funfetti dip. It's super easy to make and tastes just like dunkaroos- which this 90's kid LOVES (remember those?? I always used to eat them at Kelly's house when we were growing up).

La Petite Fashionista: Guilt Free Funfetti Dip (because who doesn't love sprinkles!)

[Practically] Guilt Free Funfetti Dip
(adapted from Eat Yourself Skinny)
1/2 cup Cool Whip
1 cup Plain Non-Fat Greek Yogurt
2/3 cup Funfetti Cake Mix
Optional: 1 tbsp. rainbow sprinkles.

Mix together ingredients & keep chilled and serve with graham cracker cookies!

The crazy thing about this dip is that it seems to be endless- it's light and fluffy and seems to never disappear. Adjust to your taste- if you want it to be sweeter, just add a bit more cake mix! There's definitely sugar in this- so perhaps totally guilt free is a stretch- but the greek yogurt helps balance things out .. and life is all about balance y'all!

What were your favorite snacks 90's kids (dunkaroos, fruit roll-ups, gushers?;)

Healthy 4th of July Fruit Kabobs + Greek Yogurt Dip

I love any excuse to celebrate (as I'm sure most of my LPF readers do!) So, I'm so excited for a weekend of cookouts, floating in the lake, and wearing lots of red, white & blue. I'm headed back to Florida for one of my besties' bridal showers in a few weeks so I'm trying not to over-indulge before I have to be in a bikini.

I whipped up these patriotic fruit kabobs & a healthy greek yogurt fruit dip. They're a sweet treat- but way healthier than a fruit dip you'd buy in stores. These would be the perfect snack for a 4th of July cookout- or all summer long. You can experiment by swapping out with other types of fruit.

Healthy 4th of July Fruit Kabobs + Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip

Fruit Skewers:
Kabob Sticks

Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip:
6 oz plain greek yogurt
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Mix well & enjoy!

Putting the fruit kabobs together actually reminded me a lot of making jewelry as a kid- trying different color & fruit combinations. I'll definitely be making these for more get togethers. I'm all about a healthy but tasty appetizer option!

What are your plans for the 4th of July?

Feeling Foxy

You know when you slip on a dress and it just feels like it's made for you. This little magenta number felt like just that- perfectly waist cinching and figure flattering. Which actually is an unexpected but delightful surprise considering that it was sent to me in my latest Le Tote delivery!

For a monthly fee, Le Tote lets you select the styles you love to add to your "closet" on the site, submit your sizing & favorite brands. Then you get a delivery of clothes & accessories in your mailbox w/ free delivery & returns - as many times as you want during the month. It's like Netflix for clothes-  which is pretty much a dream come true! If you like anything you can purchase at a discounted price.

The pieces they picked for me were spot on- bright, colorful, patterned & some killer statement accessories. This magenta dress from Collective Concepts & the fox head wrap bracelet are perfectly me.

I'm a huge fan of Le Tote- because to be quite honest- half the pieces in my closet, I've only worn a handful of times. Their program is a great way to try out trends, especially if you're always taking outfit pictures for your blog - because you'll always have new pieces to photograph.
